A Two-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamics Scheme for General Unstructured Grids

چکیده
We report a new finite-difference scheme for two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations, with and without rotation, in unstructured grids with quadrilateral cells. The new scheme is implemented within the code VULCAN/2D, which already includes radiation-hydrodynamics in various approximations and can be used with arbitrarily moving meshes (ALE). The MHD scheme, which consists of cell-centered magnetic field variables, preserves the nodal finite difference representation of div(B) by construction, and therefore any initially divergence-free field remains divergence-free through the simulation. In this paper, we describe the new scheme in detail and present comparisons of VULCAN/2D results with those of the code ZEUS/2D for several one-dimensional and twodimensional test problems. The code now enables two-dimensional simulations of the collapse and explosion of the rotating, magnetic cores of massive stars. Moreover, it can be used to simulate the very wide variety of astrophysical problems for which multi-D radiation-magnetohydrodynamics (RMHD) is relevant. Novel Multi-dimensional Upwind Constrained Transport (MUCT) schemes on un-structured triangular grids are described. Constrained Transport (CT) discretizations conserve the divergence-free nature of divergence-free vector fields on the discrete level. Multi-dimensional Upwind (MU) schemes generalize the concept of dimensionally split upwind schemes for hyperbolic systems to truly multidimension...
متن کاملA New Implicit Dissipation Term for Solving 3D Euler Equations on Unstructured Grids by GMRES+LU-SGS Scheme
Due to improvements in computational resources, interest has recently increased in using implicit scheme for solving flow equations on 3D unstructured grids. However, most of the implicit schemes produce greater numerical diffusion error than their corresponding explicit schemes. This stems from the fact that in linearizing implicit fluxes, it is conventional to replace the Jacobian matrix in t...

متن کاملAdaptive Unstructured Grid Generation Scheme for Solution of the Heat Equation
An adaptive unstructured grid generation scheme is introduced to use finite volume (FV) and finite element (FE) formulation to solve the heat equation with singular boundary conditions. Regular grids could not acheive accurate solution to this problem. The grid generation scheme uses an optimal time complexity frontal method for the automatic generation and delaunay triangulation of the grid po...

Based on Nessyahu's and Tadmor's nonoscillatory central di erence schemes for one-dimensional hyperbolic conservation laws [14], for higher dimensions, several nite volume extensions and numerical results on structured and unstructured grids have been presented. The experiments show the wide applicability of these multidimensional schemes. The theoretical arguments which support this, are some ...
