Steroids and Immunosuppressant Agents Do Not Affect Indirect Revascularization in Quasi-Moyamoya Disease Associated with Pure Red Cell Aplasia: A Case Report

چکیده
A 31-year-old woman with pure red cell aplasia presented with motor aphasia and right homonymous hemianopia due to a left temporal and parietal lobe infarction. Magnetic resonance angiography revealed an occlusion of the left anterior and middle cerebral artery, with the development of moyamoya vessels. She was diagnosed with quasi-moyamoya disease and subsequently underwent direct and indirect anastomosis surgery, while continuing steroid and immunosuppressant therapy for pure red cell aplasia. The postoperative course was uneventful, and follow-up cerebral angiography 6 months after the surgery revealed the development of neovascularization through an indirect anastomosis. Neovascularization can be induced while the patient is receiving steroid and immunosuppressant therapy in quasi-moyamoya disease.

A case of red cell aplasia in a Negro child.
Up to 1964 128 cases of congenital red cell aplasia had been reported (Table). All these were in Caucasian children and this was thought to be of genetic significance (Diamond, Allen, and Magill, 1961). Since then Khatua (1964) has described an 18-month-old Indian girl with red cell aplasia, whose chest radiograph showed an enlarged thymus gland, and who responded to steroids, while Shapiro, Wh...
متن کاملExperience with surgery for thymoma associated with pure red blood cell aplasia. Report of three cases.
We present three cases of thymoma associated with pure red blood cell aplasia in which thymomectomy and thymectomy were performed. Case 1, a patient with pure red blood cell aplasia and hypogammaglobulinemia, was treated after surgery with immunosuppressive agents. She did not show any remission and died eight months after the operation. Case 2, a patient with pure red blood cell aplasia alone,...
متن کاملTKI-induced pure red cell aplasia: first case report of pure red cell aplasia with both imatinib and nilotinib
Tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKIs) represent the only hopes for long-term survival for patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) and gastrointestinal stromal tumours. Thus, uninterrupted use of TKIs is of importance in such patients. Pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) is a rare disorder, not previously known to be associated with TKIs. We present, to the best of our knowledge, the first case of a ...
متن کاملPure red cell aplasia induced by epoetin zeta
Pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) may develop in patients with chronic kidney disease receiving erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESA). We report on a 72-year-old patient who developed hypo-proliferative anaemia unresponsive to ESA following the administration of epoetin zeta subcutaneously for 7 months. On the basis of severe isolated hypoplasia of the erythroid line in the bone marrow and high-ti...
متن کاملMoyamoya Disease in an 18-Month-Old Female Caucasian Complicated by Cerebral Hyperperfusion Syndrome Following Indirect Revascularization
BACKGROUND Cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome is a rare complication of indirect revascularization due to moyamoya disease, but has not been reported previously in the pediatric population. We present a case of an 18-month-old girl with moyamoya disease that was treated with bilateral pial synangiosis and had complications consistent with cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome. This case report discuss...
