چکیده

Auditory spectral integration in the perception of dynamic acoustic cues in speech was examined experimentally. The potential role of a dynamically changing center of gravity in the perception of diphthongs /ui/ (as in we) and /iu/ (as n you) was verified. Listeners identified the effective frequency changes well, showing that movement of the spectral center of gravity can provide the cues necessary for the identification of dynamic events in speech such as F2 transitions. Most models of vowel perception propose that vowels are identified on the basis of formant peaks. Our results indicate that perception of dynamic events in speech is to a large extent attributable to central auditory processes such as spectral integration.

Development of an integrated program of sensory rehabilitation based on vibroacoustic and virtual reality and its effectiveness on the profile of auditory processing in children with autism spectrum disorder: A Case study

Introduction: People with autism spectrum disorder have sensory abnormalities in addition to social interactions, communication skills, limited interests and stereotyped behaviors. Therefor the present study conducted with the aim of development of an integrated program of sensory rehabilitation based on vibroacoustic and virtual reality and its effectiveness on the profile of auditory, in chil...

Vowels and Diphthongs in the Taiyuan Jin Chinese Dialect

On the basis of an acoustic phonetic analysis of monophthongs and diphthongs, this paper describes vowel phonology in the Taiyuan Jin dialect. The results show that Taiyuan has a comparable but different vowel inventory for C(G)V versus C(G)VN syllables. And the vowel contrast is dramatically reduced in checked syllables. The asymmetry between falling and rising diphthongs suggests a dynamic ac...

Diphthongized vowels in the yi county hui Chinese dialect

This paper is an acoustic phonetic description of the vowels and diphthongs in the Yi county dialect and compares the diphthongized vowels with monophthongs and diphthongs in terms of their temporal structures and spectral characteristics. Results show that rising diphthongs have two targets while falling diphthongs only have one dynamic target. Diphthongized vowels occur as an intermediate cat...

Vowels and Diphthongs in Cangnan Southern Min Chinese Dialect

This paper gives an acoustic phonetic description of the vowels and diphthongs in Cangnan Southern Min Chinese dialect. Vowel formant data from 10 speakers (5 male and 5 female) show that the distribution of Cangnan monophthongs in the acoustic vowel space is of particular typological interest. Diphthong production is examined in terms of temporal organization, spectral property, and dynamic as...

A perception-production study of Romanian diphthongs and glide-vowel sequences

This study compares two diphthongs ([ea], [oa]) and two glide-vowel sequences ([ja], [wa]) in Romanian. The diphthongs and the sequences are auditorily very similar, but they differ in their phonological patterning. An integrated production and perception experiment is conducted in search of perceptual and acoustic evidence for the different phonological representations proposed for the diphtho...
