Artificial Radionuclides in the Western North Pacific: A Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Artificial radionuclides in the marine environment pose a significant concern along various political, health and environmental aspects since they were introduced as a by-product from the nuclear weapon testing, particularly in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. While radiological concern is confined only in special cases, the introduction of artificial radionuclides has been proven to be very useful tracers for the ocean processes. Various input of artificial radionuclides to the Pacific Ocean were compiled. Time series variation of the artificial radionuclides in the surface waters and in the water column was described. Finally, retrospective studies in the artificial radionuclide concentrations in the surface water was proposed using the dated corals taken from the northwest Pacific Proper away from the influence of coastal ocean.

The Source of Cobalt-60 and Migrations of Albacore off the West Coast of North America
Cobalt is an integral part of the vitamin Bl2 complex and an important cofactor in enzyme systems (Lowman et al. 1971; Reichle et al. 1970). It is, therefore, an element whose cycle in oceanic ecosystems is of interest. The artificial radionuclide cobalt-60 (60CO) has been observed in the livers of albacore, (Thunnus alalunga Bonnaterre) collected off the west coast of North America, Washington...

Background: A field study on the transfer of primordial radionuclides 238U, 232Th, 40K and fallout radionuclides 210Po in different plant species in tropical forest of western Ghats environment is presented. Material and Methods: The Top storey, Second storey, Shrubs and epiphytic plant species were chosen and concentration of these radionuclides in plant and soil were measured by employing gam...
متن کاملPacific bluefin tuna transport Fukushima-derived radionuclides from Japan to California.
The Fukushima Dai-ichi release of radionuclides into ocean waters caused significant local and global concern regarding the spread of radioactive material. We report unequivocal evidence that Pacific bluefin tuna, Thunnus orientalis, transported Fukushima-derived radionuclides across the entire North Pacific Ocean. We measured γ-emitting radionuclides in California-caught tunas and found (134)C...

Introduction: Investigation on the natural radionuclides 238U, 232Th, 40K and natural fallout radionuclide 210Po in the prominent plants species of Western Ghats tropical forest near Kotagiri have been carried out as a part of baseline background radiation studies in the forest environment. Materials and Methods: The prominent plants species of the region Evodia roxburghiana and Eleaocarpus obl...
