Building extendable room based sensor clusters for ubiquitous computing environments

چکیده
Experiences from work with sensors in ubiquitous computing environments are described and summarized. Problems regarding reusability, scalability and ease of deployment of sensor systems are identified. A platform architecture as well as a reference implementation is presented, that supports development of sensor based applications on a low level. The platform eases reusability, sharing of sensors between applications, supports transport, and refinement of sensor data.

Designing for Privacy in Ubiquitous Computing Environments
In an Ubiquitous Computing environment, sensors are actively collecting data, much of which can be very sensitive. Data will often be streaming at high rates (video and audio) and it must be dealt with in real-time. Protecting the privacy of users is of central importance. Effective solutions for controlling access to data in ubicomp settings remain to be developed. Dealing with these issues wi...

Residential ubiquitous computing environments have focused on interconnecting environmental controls using a home network and the management of sensor data rather than a context-aware inference. Building upon previous research, this paper proposes a novel sensor-based context-aware system with a focus on three inference processes: rule, inference and pattern driven. Using pattern data derived f...
متن کاملBOES: Building Occupancy Estimation System Using Sparse Ambient Vibration Monitoring
In this paper, we present a room-level building occupancy estimation system (BOES) utilizing low-resolution vibration sensors that are sparsely distributed. Many ubiquitous computing and building maintenance systems require fine-grained occupancy knowledge to enable occupant centric services and optimize space and energy utilization. The sensing infrastructure support for current occupancy esti...
متن کاملA World Model for Smart Spaces
A world model for ubiquitous computing environments is presented. It can be dynamically organized like a tree based on geographical containment, such as in a user-room-floor-building hierarchy and each node in the tree can be constructed as an executable software component. It provides a unified view of the locations of not only physical entities and spaces, including users and objects, but als...
