Oral treatment of trichomonal vaginitis with 2-acetylamino-5-nitrothiazole (tritheon).

چکیده
Perl, Guttmacher, and Raggazoni (1956) reported that approximately one-third of patients with trichomonal vaginitis were cured after oral treatment with 2-acetylamino-5-nitrothiazole and the local application of an acid jelly. In our hands initial results seemed less satisfactory and it seemed that the little good that accrued might have been due to local therapy. For this reason, a small controlled trial was instituted, using volunteer patients who had trichomonads present in the vaginal smear, who had received no antitrichomonal treatment during the previous 6 weeks and who would be able to attend for frequent observation during treatment.

more sensitive than simple microscopy. Patients were included in the trial when the diagnosis was made while the doctor conducting the trial was on duty. The only patients excluded were those who had already been treated for a trichomonal infection in the previous 3 months. The treatment used was a single oral dose of 2 g. metronidazole. In the pilot study this necessitated the ingestion of ten...
متن کاملFlagyl in the Oral Treatment of Trichomonal
Several reports may be found in the literature on the trichomonicidal properties of derivatives of Azomycin (Nakamura, 1955; Horie, 1956; Cosar and Julou, 1959). Among this group, 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole (Flagyl) was found to possess a high activity and a very low toxicity in experimentally-infected mice (Cosar and Julou, 1959). These results were confirmed by Durel, Roiron...
متن کاملVaginal moniliasis after treatment of trichomonal infection with "Flagyl".
There is some difference of opinion regarding the incidence of vaginal thrush following the treatment of trichomonal vaginitis with the new oral trichomonicide, metronidazole ("Flagyl"). Rees (1960) and Rodin, King, Nicol, and Barrow (1960) concluded that metronidazole neither encouraged nor inhibited the growth of the fungus concerned. Watt and Jennison (1960) found coincident monilial infecti...
متن کاملTrichomonal vaginitis treated with one dose of metronidazole.
Since its introduction in France, metronidazole (Flagyl) has become the standard treatment for trichomonal vaginitis (Durel, Roiron, Siboulet, and Borel, 1959). The course recommended at that time and continued ever since was 200 mg. three times daily for 7 days, giving a cure rate of 85 to 98 per cent. (Csonka, 1963; Evans and Catterall, 1970; Keighley, 1971). We have investigated the possibil...

The local treatment of trichomonal vaginitis usually results in cure, but there are the following exceptions: (1) Some cases are resistant to treatment from the start. (2) Local treatment of the vagina can have no effect upon infection of the urethra, from which the vagina is re-infected. (3) In trichomonal urethritis in the male, local methods of treatment up to now have been of little effect,...
