چکیده
Using MMICs in phased-array applications above 20 GHz requires complex RF and control signal distribution systems. Conventional waveguide, coaxial cable, and microstrip methods are undesirable due to their high weight, high l o s s , limited mechanical flexibility and large volume. bution in MMIC phased array antennas, is optical fiber. Presented are potential system architectures and their associated characteristics. The status of high frequency optoelectronic components needed to realize the potential system architectures is also discussed. It is concluded that an optical fiber network will reduce weight and complexity, and increase reliability and performance, but may require higher power. An attractive alternative to these transmission media, for RF and control signal distri

Phased array antenna using MEMS phase shifter
This article presents a phased array antenna employing MEMS phase shifter. The proposed phased array antenna consists of eight square patch antennas operating at 10.4 GHz with a bandwidth of 400 MHz. Feed line for each patch passes through a MEMS phase shifter realized by a series of bridges above the transmission line. The distance between the bridge and the transmission line underneath it is ...

We report the results of a demonstration of a real time delay, optically controlled phased array radar receiver. This implementation employed a free space configuration based upon an optical switching network using liquid crystal spatial light modulators (SLM’s). A three-delay unit, two-antenna array receiver was implemented at an optical wavelength of 1.3 pm and demonstrated “squint-free” oper...

Abstract— This work investigates the improvement of the active reflection coefficient of waveguide-fed phased-array antenna using liquid crystal layers. The anisotropy properties of liquid crystal layer can be employed to eliminate blind scan angle and improve the wide angle impedance matching of the waveguide-fed phased array antennas. The authors have expressed the modal analysis of the waveg...

A novel multiwavelength scheme is proposed and demonstrated for one-dimensional (1-D) and two-dimensional (2-D) optically controlled phased-array antenna (OCPAA) systems with true time delay (TTD). This hardware-compressive architecture employs a multiwavelength laser source in conjunction with a programmable dispersion matrix (PDM) and switched optical delay lines (SODL’s) to generate all the ...
