More on the noninvasive diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension: Doppler echocardiography revisited.

چکیده
The noninvasive diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension generally includes a physical examination, an electrocardiogram, a chest roentgenogram, a radionuclide angiography, and an echocardiography. These methods can discriminate mild from severe elevation in pressure, but lack sufficient sensitivity to be useful in the evaluation of short-term therapeutic interventions or in the monitoring of the clinical course of patients [1, 2]. Advances in echo-Doppler technology in the years since 1980 have made it possible to improve the estimation of pulmonary artery pressures (Ppa) and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) by the study of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) jets and pulmonary flow-velocity waves [3]. The echoDoppler evaluation of pulmonary hypertension has since entered routine cardiological practice, but is still considered inferior to a right heart catheterization [4, 5]. This opinion may be based on an insufficient appreciation of the information content of the Doppler recordings.

Comparison between M-Mode and Doppler echocardiography in diagnosis
Introduction: Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is the persistence of a normal fetal structure between left pulmonary artery and descending aorta. Persistence of this fetal structure beyond 10 days of life is considered abnormal. In this study we compared M-Mode and Doppler echocardiography in diagnosis of PDA in children at Aliasghar Hospital in Zahedan and Children hospital in Bandar Abbas for...
متن کاملReliability of Noninvasive Assessment of Systolic Pulmonary Artery Pressure by Doppler Echocardiography Compared to Right Heart Catheterization: Analysis in a Large Patient Population
BACKGROUND Pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) is an important marker in cardiovascular disorders, being closely associated with morbidity and mortality. Noninvasive assessment by Doppler echocardiography is recommended by current guidelines. So far, the reliability of this method has been assessed only in small studies with contradictory results. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the...
متن کاملEstimation of pulmonary pressures and diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension by Doppler echocardiography: a retrospective comparison of routine echocardiography and invasive hemodynamics.
BACKGROUND To date, Doppler echocardiography is the most widespread and well-recognized technique for the noninvasive evaluation of systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP). However, recent studies have reported reservations about the relevance of Doppler echocardiography or the tool's reliability in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). Thus, the aim of thi...
