SYNTHESIS OF Fe3O4 NANOPARTICLES AND ITS INTERACTION WITH DIFFERENT CARBON CONTAINING GASES

Interests on carbon nanostructures are growing over the decades since the discovery of buckminsterfullerene and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The chemical vapor deposition method is promising for nano-carbon synthesis, because it is capable of controlling the carbon structure and achieving high yield. The fine-tuning of different carbon structures is normally focused on varying catalyst compositions, while the influence of carbon containing gases is much less addressed. On the other hand, much attention has been paid to synthesize magnetic materials, among which the synthesis of nanometer-size Fe3O4 is a much focused research area. In this study we report the synthesis of Fe3O4 with small diameter and its application in the synthesis of different carbon nanostructures by interaction with different carbon containing gases.
