Bacterial Endotoxin Released by Different Types of Mouthwash

چکیده
Endotoxins are part of the outer membrane of the cell wall of gram-negative bacteria. Mouthwashes or rinses are products used to enhance oral hygiene. In the present study, gram positive and gram negative bacterial isolates were collected and laboratory tests was used to assess the inhibition of growth of oral bacteria by three modern commercially available mouthwashes containing Aloe vera, Peppermint and Orasept. The action of each mouthwash was studied using electron microscopic studies and end-point Microtitre plate. The in vitro liberation of endotoxin was found to be induced with selected types of mouthwash targeted toward, bacterial endotoxin. Specific mouthwash have been classified here as “weak” (peppermint), because a high concentrations is needed to kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria, or “strong” (e.g. Orasept) where only a low concentration of mouthwash is required.

Measuring of free endotoxin in alum-precipitated vaccine of haemorrhagic septicaemia by limulus amebocyte lysate test
Haemorrhagic septicaemia (HS) vaccine which is prepared in Razi Institute is used in endemic areas ofIran. Aluminum-hydroxide gel was used as adjuvant for preparing this vaccine. Post-vaccinal shock reactionswere the main complaint after use of this vaccine. In a previous study, we could improve the vaccine byalum-precipitation Pasteurella multocida cells and removing the liquid phase. In this ...
متن کاملInduction of metallothionein synthesis in cultured cells by substances released from endotoxin-activated macrophages.
The involvement of macrophages in the induction of metallothionein (MT) synthesis by bacterial endotoxin was studied in vitro. Rat peritoneal macrophages were incubated with endotoxin. The incubation medium from endotoxin-activated macrophages accelerated MT synthesis by human hepatic Chang cells. However, the incubation medium from non-activated macrophages did not. Endotoxin added to the cult...
متن کاملEndotoxin Contamination of Large Volume Parenterals as Detected by Limulus Amebocyte Lysate as an Alternative to Rabbit Pyrogen Test
The possibility of replacing the rabbit pyrogen test by the Limulus Amebocyte lysate (LAL) test, as a final release test for Large Volume Parenterals (LVPs) was investigated. The sensitivity and specificity of the LAL test and rabbit pyrogen assay were studied by means of artificially contaminated parenterals. Various LVPs (mostly containing electrolytes) were spiked with 0.5 and 5 EUlml o...

Introduction: The present study aimed to evaluate an experimental herbal mouthwash, as compared to sodium fluoride mouthwash on the frictional resistance and surface roughness between brackets and two rectangular archwire types. Methods: A total of 60 premolar׳s brackets engaged with 0.019×0.025 archwires made of stainless steel and nickel-titanium alloys were used in this study. The samples we...
متن کاملThe Effect of Green Tea on Prevention of Mouth Bacterial Infection, Halitosis, and Plaque Formation on Teeth
Background: Compounds present in both green and black teas have been shown to inhibit the growth and activity of bacteria associated with mouth infections. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of green tea leaves extract on the aerobic mouth bacterial load. Methods: A total of 25 volunteer female students, aged 20-25 years, were selected and then evaluated by green tea extract and ...
