Two Methods for Load Balanced Distributed Adaptive Integration

چکیده
Parallel subregion-adaptive integration often exhibits sequential behavior when applied to functions with diicult local problems such as boundary singularities. To correct this, one needs to balance the loads of the processors by providing all of them with a reasonably diicult part of the problem. In this paper, we present two distributed adaptive integration methods: one based on a global heap priority queue (distributed over the processors) which remains load balanced and assures that the subregions are processed according to their (global) priority (size of error) and one based on a local heap priority queue enhanced by receiver-initiated load balancing. We report results of both methods.

We give a survey of the ParInt project for Parallel/ distributed Integration. We analyze the \generic" distributed adaptive integration algorithm and modify it to retain an eecient distribution of the global work load over the processors. With this goal we consider a distributed adaptive integration method based on a global heap priority queue, which remains load balanced and assures that the s...
متن کاملParallel Adaptive hp - Refinement Techniques for Conservation Laws *
Abstract We describe an adaptive hp-refinement local finite element procedure for the parallel solution of hyperbolic systems of conservation laws on rectangular domains. The local finite element procedure utilizes spaces of piecewise-continuous polynomials of arbitrary degree and coordinated explicit Runge-Kutta temporal integration. A solution limiting procedure produces monotonic solutions n...
متن کاملAdaptive Time-Dependent CFD on Distributed Unstructured Meshes
Two recent trends in software for CFD problems are the use of unstructured adaptive meshes and the need to implement the software on distributed memory parallel computers. The subject of this paper is the implementation of one particular code of this type for the solution of time-dependent compressible Euler and Navier Stokes problems. The software described here uses the method of lines with t...
متن کاملExtrapolation in distributed adaptive integration
This paper addresses the design of distributed methods which incorporate numerical extrapolation into adaptive multivariate integration, in order to increase the functionality of the integration algorithms. When attempting to deal with singularities, adaptive integration algorithms need a very fine subdivision in the proximity of these “hot spots”. This is not practical in higher dimensions whe...
متن کاملLoad Balancing Strategies for Parallel SAMR Algorithms
Highly resolved solutions of partial differential equations are important in many areas of science and technology nowadays. Only adaptive mesh refinement methods reduce the necessary work sufficiently allowing the calculation of realistic problems. Blockstructured SAMR methods are well-suited for the time-explicit computation of large-scale dynamical problems, but still require parallelization ...
