Scheduling just-in-time part supply for mixed-model assembly lines

چکیده
With increasing cost competition and product variety, providing an efficient Just-inTime (JIT) supply has become one of the greatest challenges in the use of mixedmodel assembly line production systems. In the present paper, therefore, we propose a new approach for scheduling JIT part supply from a central storage center. Usually, materials are stored in boxes that are allotted to the consumptive stations of the line by forklift. For such a real-world problem, a new model, a complexity proof as well as different exact and heuristic solution procedures are provided. Furthermore, at the interface between logistics and assembly operations, strategic management implications are obtained. Specifically, basing on the new approach, it is the first time a statistical analysis is being made as to whether widespread Level Scheduling policies, which are well-known from the Toyota Production System, indeed facilitate material supply. Note that in literature it is frequently claimed that this causality exists.

A Basic Period Approach for Solving the Economic Lot and Delivery Scheduling in Flexible Flow Lines
In this paper, the problem of lot sizing, scheduling and delivery of several items in a two-stage supply chain over a finite planning horizon is studied. Single supplier via a flexible flow line production system (FFL), produces several items and delivers them directly to an assembly facility. Based on basic period (BP) strategy, a new mixed zero-one nonlinear programming model has been develop...
متن کاملThe Finite Horizon Economic Lot Scheduling in Flexible Flow Lines
This paper addresses the common cycle multi-product lot-scheduling problem in flexible flow lines (FFL) where the product demands are deterministic and constant over a finite planning horizon. Objective is minimizing the sum of setup costs, work-in-process and final products inventory holding costs per time unite while satisfying the demands without backlogging. This problem consists of a combi...
متن کاملOptimally routing and scheduling tow trains for JIT-supply of mixed-model assembly lines
In recent years, more and more automobile producers adopted the supermarketconcept to enable a exible and reliable Just-in-Time (JIT) part supply of their mixed-model assembly lines. Within this concept, a supermarket is a decentralized in-house logistics area where parts are intermediately stored and then loaded on small tow trains. These tow trains travel across the shop oor on speci c routes...
متن کاملA multi-objective genetic algorithm for a mixed-model assembly U-line balancing type-I problem considering human-related issues, training, and learning
Mixed-model assembly lines are increasingly accepted in many industrial environments to meet the growing trend of greater product variability, diversification of customer demands, and shorter life cycles. In this research, a new mathematical model is presented considering balancing a mixed-model U-line and human-related issues, simultaneously. The objective function consists of two separate com...

This paper considers the economic lot and delivery scheduling problem in a two-echelon supply chains, where a single supplier produces multiple components on a flexible flow line (FFL) and delivers them directly to an assembly facility (AF). The objective is to determine a cyclic schedule that minimizes the sum of transportation, setup and inventory holding costs per unit time without shortage....
