Hyperglycemia in acute cerebral infarction.

چکیده
OBJECTIVE Report the results of hyperglycemia in the patients with acute cerebral infarction. MATERIAL AND METHOD A retrospective review of 231 patients who presented with the syndrome of acute cerebral infarction at Ratchaburi Hospital from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2004. Patients data, diagnosis, blood glucose, and underlying disease were collected from medical records (n = 231). RESULTS Hyperglycemia is defined as the blood glucose level of more than 140 mg/dl. Odd ratio for 1 year mortality was calculated using multivariable Cox regression models. Admission hyperglycemia was present in 43.7 % of patients with acute cerebral infarction. 61% of these patients received oral hypoglycemic drugs during their hospital admission. Hyperglycemic patients had a longer hospital stay than normoglycemics (6.91 vs 4.60, p < 0.001) and increased risk for death at 1 year (odd ratio = 1.004, p < 0.01). CONCLUSION Hyperglycemia can predict mortality of acute cerebral infarction.

About Hyperglycemia During Acute Stroke To the Editor: Having completed a pilot clinical trial of aggressive hyperglycemia correction during acute cerebral infarction, we read with interest the recently published American Heart Association guidelines that include new suggestions for managing hyperglycemia during acute stroke.1 Although the guidelines clearly declare their lack of support by cli...
متن کاملThe Frequency of Cerebral Microembolism in Acute Myocardial Infarction
ABSTRACT Introduction: Stroke is more common in patients with cerebral microembolisms. Frequency of cerebral microembolisms (high intensity transient signals, HITS) in acute myocardial infarction has been reported about 17%. The factors that influence on microembolism after myocardial infarction (MI) are not definitive. Type of MI, Ejection fraction, Hx of Streptokinase is the factors that were...
متن کاملRecurrent Seizures Following Focal Motor Status Epilepticus in a Patient with Non-Ketotic Hyperglycemia and Acute Cerebral Infarction
Focal motor status epilepticus (FMSE) is often associated non-ketotic hyperglycemia (NKH). There are no previous reports describing FMSE with NKH that was accompanied by an acute cerebral infarction and its long term follow-up result. We describe the case of a patient having focal motor status epilepticus (FMSE) associated with non-ketotic hyperglycemia (NKH) and acute cerebral infarction who l...

Comparison of admission serum glucose concentration with neurologic outcome in acute cerebral infarction. A study in patients given naloxone.
We studied the ability of serum glucose concentration and neurologic deficits at admission in predicting the outcome of acute cerebral ischemia in 65 patients given naloxone. Among our patients, the volume of infarction on computed tomograms and outcome were strongly related to the severity of neurologic deficits found at admission. Neither a history of diabetes nor hyperglycemia when added to ...
