Simplicity Rather Than Knowledge

چکیده
I’ve spent over 20 years implementing algorithms for Boolean minimization, with particular application to area optimization of large semiconductor circuits. This exploration has included almost all published algorithms, dozens of conventional and exotic data structures, over two dozen programming languages and styles, and almost every level of implementation, from reconfigurable silicon through customized instruction sets, conventional programming languages, and very high-level languages such as Mathematica. The huge, randomly generated CNF formulae used to study SAT phase transition have attracted many creative approaches (such as variants of unit propagation, differential equations, probabilistic moments, component connectivity, cutting planes, and so on). However, I’ve learned one thing about the nature of Boolean minimization that seems obvious now. No matter how clever an algorithm is, no matter how extensively the structure of a problem is analyzed, no matter how much adaptive learning and lemma caching is used, the most successful approach to the general Boolean minimization problem is to use the simplest possible algorithm—brute force applied to lexicographically sorted formulae and implemented in reconfigurable silicon. The lessons learned? For the general case, complexity cannot be finessed by any degree of cleverness. Native silicon is faster than any symbolic optimization. Simplicity rather than knowledge is the key.

Background & objective: Although delivering with Cesarean method is preferred in limited cases which has dangerous effects on child or mother's health, rate of cesarean is increasing vastly nowadays. The main purpose of this study was to explore Social, Cultural and Demographic factors related to this phenomenon among pregnant women of Shiraz. Materials & Methods: In this study 600 pregnant wom...
متن کاملOpponent Uses of Simplicity and Complexity in Causal Explanation
People often prefer simpler explanations because they have higher prior probability. However, simpler explanations are not always normatively superior because they often do not fit the data as well as complex explanations. How do people negotiate this trade-off between prior probability (favoring simplicity) and goodness-of-fit (favoring complexity)? Here, we argue that people use opponent heur...
متن کاملKnowledge Translation in Healthcare – Towards Understanding its True Complexities; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
This commentary argues that to fully appreciate the complexities of knowledge transfer one firstly has to distinguish between the notions of “data, information, knowledge and wisdom,” and that the latter two are highly context sensitive. In particular one has to understand knowledge as being personal rather than objective, and hence there is no form of knowledge that a-priori is more authoritat...
متن کاملMeasuring and Predicting Customer Lifetime Value in Customer Loyalty Analysis: A Knowledge Management Perspective (A Case Study on an e-Retailer)
Modern business organizations have appreciated the significance of having competitive advantage through the delivery of continuous improvement towards the customers, and being knowledge-oriented. Indisputably, Knowledge Management (KM) plays a key role in the success of Customer Relationship Management (CRM). In this regard, Customer Knowledge Management (CKM) is a newly developed concept that ...
متن کاملRole of L1 and L2 in the Organization of Iranian EFL Lived Narratives
People are constrained by their culture and social life when telling stories. A second language learner then cannot be expected to tell stories in the target language without cross-cultural effects that influence the way of narration. The present study examined the role of the first language (L1) and second language (L2) in the organization of narratives by focusing on Persian speakers’ and EFL...
