Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus susceptibility testing by an automated system, Autobac I.

چکیده
The Autobac I system was used to evaluate the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates. The results of the Autobac I were compared with the results of the disk diffusion method. The disk diffusion susceptibility pattern showed resistance to methicillin/oxacillin, penicillin, erythromycin, clindamycin, and kanamycin. All isolates were susceptible to cephalothin, chloramphenicol, tetracycline, and gentamicin. There was at least 96% agreement using the Autobac I system with all antibiotics except methicillin and clindamycin. Seventy percent of 57 isolates were recorded as susceptible to methicillin, whereas 9% had an intermediate susceptibility. With clindamycin, 14% were recorded as susceptible and 7% were recorded as intermediate. Upon prolonged incubation of the Autobac I cuvette, the agreement between the two methods was 44% for methicillin and 93% for clindamycin. Changes in the environmental conditions, such as use of 5% sodium chloride broth and a 32 degrees C incubation temperature, did not increase the detection of methicillin-resistant isolates by the Autobac I system.

متن کاملAutobac susceptibility testing of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated in an Australian hospital.
Semiautomated rapid broth elution (Autobac Multi-Test System; General Diagnostics, Div. Warner-Lambert Co., Morris Plains, N.J.) and disk diffusion tests were compared with an agar dilution breakpoint method to determine the antibiotic susceptibility of 147 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates from our hospital. Although the disk diffusion method, in general, correlated well wit...
متن کاملDetection Of Methicillin Resistance In Staphylococcus Aureus By Disk Diffusion And PCR Methods
Background and Objective: Methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus is an increasingly important clinical problem. A chromosomal gene, mecA, mediates resistance to penicillinase-resistant penicillins such as methicillin and oxacillin in Staphylococcus aureus. We evaluated the validity of disk diffusion test by using oxacillin, methicillin an...
متن کاملMethicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) an important microorganism: determination of its prevalence and evaluation of its associated factors in hospitalized dermatologic patients
Background: Methicillin–resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)has recently emerged as a worldwide major nosocomial pathogenthat causes significant morbidity and mortality. MRSA is frequentlycolonized on the skin. The aim of this study was to determinethe MRSA colonization/infection prevalence and to evaluatethe potential risk factors for its development in the hospitalizedpatients in a referral...
متن کاملEvaluation of Tigecycline Activity Against Methicillin-Resistante Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Biological Samples
Tigecycline is a new glycylcycline antibiotic structurally similar to minocycline antibiotic. It has broad spectrum activity, including Staphylococcus aureus infections. This is the first study that evaluated the activity of Tigecycline against Staphylococcus aureus isolated from biological samples in Iran. In vitro activity of tigecycline against 160 Staphylococcus aureus including 99 methicil...
