چکیده

Controlling states and growths of a microscale bubble (or pendant drop) in a static liquid on a solid surface (or orifice) can be achieved by introducing general dimensionless phase diagrams provided in this work. Nowadays, microbubbles are often used to control transport phenomena in various microand nano-technologies. This work parametrically presents general three-dimensional phase diagrams of a microbubble on a solid surface by applying perturbation solutions with accuracy to the second power of Bond number of Young–Laplace equation in the literature. The phase diagrams are found to be divided into three regions, depending on if the microbubble surface contains the inflection point or neck. The general growth, departure and entrapment of a microbubble thus can be described by path lines on diagrams by adjusting two of three dimensionless parameters governing the apex and base radii, and contact angle to satisfy the desired requirement. The initial condition is Bond number, defined as the ratio of hydrostatic and capillary pressures at an initial or critical state. Validity of this model is confirmed by comparing with available theoretical data, agreed with experimental results in the literature. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Rapid deceleration-driven wetting transition during pendant drop deposition on superhydrophobic surfaces.

A hitherto unknown mechanism for wetting transition is reported. When a pendant drop settles upon deposition, there is a virtual "collision" where its center of gravity undergoes rapid deceleration. This induces a high water hammer-type pressure that causes wetting transition. A new phase diagram shows that both large and small droplets can transition to wetted states due to the new deceleratio...

Experimental and Simulation Constructing of Phase Diagram and Quality Lines for a Lean Gas Condensate Reservoir Fluid

Constructing phase diagram and its subsequent quality lines for lean gas condensate reservoirs is always crucial and challenging topic in reservoir fluid studies. Due to small amounts of liquid drop-outs in lean gas condensates at reservoir conditions, full experimental tracking of phase diagram and its relevant quality lines is almost impossible for lean gas condensates. On the other hand, ...

Sessile and Pendant Micro-Liter Drops Evaporate at Different Rates: An Experimental Approach

Evaporation of micro-liter drops from solid surfaces at room condition is mainly governed by diffusion. Therefore, there should be no difference between evaporation rate of sessile and pendant drops. However, some studies indicate a difference and explain the difference using buoyancy. The objective here is to reconcile the inconsistency in the literature. For that, first, by comparing two iden...

Tailoring Hydrodynamics of Non-wetting Droplets with Nano-engineered Surfaces

Considering that contacts between liquid and solid are ubiquitous in almost all energy processes, including steam turbines, oil pumping, condensers and boilers, the efficiency of energy transportation can be maximized such that the liquid-solid interaction is optimized. Texture based super-hydrophobicity, also known as the Lotus effect, has been one of the most extensively studied topics in the...

THEORY, EXPERIMENT AND PRACTICE OF SLAG ATTACK OF REFRACTORIES

Penetration and dissolution mechanisms are reviewed for predominantly single-phase oxide, two phase oxide and oxide-carbon composite refractories by liquid silicate slags. Theoretical models of these processes, as well as static (sessile drop, dipping and crucible) and dynamic (rotating finger and rotary slag) experimental tests, along with their practical limitations are considered. Direct (co...
