چکیده
1.Introduction In 3rd generation synchrotron radiation (SR), one of the most promising items may be control and characterization of polarization state. In particular, they are a crucial factor to study magnetic properties using the various techniques inscattering, absorption, diffraction and emission experiments. Indeed, low emittance SR such as Spring-8 can efficiently realize this performance, and for this reason a combination of linear undulator and phaseretarder was decided on the design of beamline 39XU. Experimental test of instruments for Xray magnetic absorption and scattering (XMAS) has successfully demonstrated that the apparatus has the feasibility for studying magnetism. In this report we present the results of X-ray resonance magnetic scattering X-ray magnetic circulardichroism,X-ray magnetic dillraction, and ATS scattering, in which the phase retarder played an essential role for the control of both linear and circular polarization states. Finally, we view some studies to be extended on the beamline in near future.

Magnetic X-ray absorption fine structure for Ni-Mn alloys.
Magnetic X-ray absorption fine-structure (XAFS) spectra have been measured for Ni-Mn alloys. The magnetic XAFS in the near-edge region (X-ray absorption near-edge structure, XANES) and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) of the Mn and Ni K-edge for Ni(1-x)Mn(x) (x = 0.25, 0.24 and 0.20) show that (i) the local magnetic structure around the Mn atom is quite different from that around the Ni...
متن کاملPhoton interference effect in x-ray absorption spectra over a wide energy range
We consider fundamental structures in x-ray absorption spectra over a wide energy range. We formulate the elastic scattering in addition to the photoelectric absorption in recently reported photon interference x-ray absorption fine structure (pXAFS). The simulations show excellent agreement with experimental x-ray absorption spectra for platinum and tungsten powders far above and below the L ab...
متن کاملX-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy with a superconducting detector for nitrogen dopants in SiC
Fluorescence-yield X-ray absorption fine structure (FY-XAFS) is extensively used for investigating atomic-scale local structures around specific elements in functional materials. However, conventional FY-XAFS instruments frequently cannot cover trace light elements, for example dopants in wide gap semiconductors, because of insufficient energy resolution of semiconductor X-ray detectors. Here w...

The production of high-energy (1 KeV to 40 KeV) x-radiation at synchrotron laboratories around the world has enabled the spectroscopic analysis of core level electronic transitions and electronic scattering processes in trace (< 1000 ppm) metal and metalloid atoms as they are found in heterogeneous natural materials (e.g., soils, sediments, plants, and microbial mats). Environmental geochemists...
