چکیده

This paper presents a fast corner fixation algorithm for log-polar cameras. The algorithm uses the log-Hough transform to fixate on the dominant corner in the image by aligning the optical axis with the corner. The algorithm has been implemented in a real-time closed-loop control system, which exhibits stable behaviour as the tracking error minimises towards the image centre. This system demonstrates an important benefit of utilising the logpolar sensor with log-Hough line detection that there is an automatic bias to corners closer to fovea. This removes the need for searching explicitly through all detected corner positions in order to locate the one closest to an arbitrary point. In addition, since the log-polar sensor has a large field of view for a given number of pixels compared to Cartesian space-invariant cameras, it removes the need to use a tracking window to increase performance, while still supporting high resolution at the fovea.

Efficient active monocular fixation using the log-polar sensor

This paper applies a sensor which has been developed based on a model of primate vision to corner fixation. Fixation is critical for the log-polar sensor as many of the sensor’s advantages are demonstrated only under fixation. This paper presents a fast corner fixation algorithm using the log-Hough transform to find the dominant centre-most corner and aligning the optical axis with the corner. ...

Vergence control for robotic heads using log-polar images

This paper describes a real-time vergence control mechanism based on log-polar images, developed for a robot head. The real-time control of active vision systems imposes strong constraints on the computational complexity of the vision algorithms. In this paper, we illustrate that vergence of a stereo head can be achieved at reduced computational cost using log-polar images. These images have hi...

Egomotion Estimation Using Log-Polar Images

We address the problem of egomotion estimation of a monocular observer moving with arbitrary translation and rotation in an unknown environment, using log-polar images. The method we propose is uniquely based on the spatio-temporal image derivatives, or the normal ow. Thus, we avoid computing the complete optical ow eld, which is an ill-posed problem due to the aperture problem. We use a search...

Visual Tracking using Kernel Projected Measurement and Log-Polar Transformation

Visual Servoing is generally contained of control and feature tracking. Study of previous methods shows that no attempt has been made to optimize these two parts together. In kernel based visual servoing method, the main objective is to combine and optimize these two parts together and to make an entire control loop. This main target is accomplished by using Lyapanov theory. A Lyapanov candidat...

Computation of 3-D-Motion Parameters Using the Log-Polar Transform

Ariicial vision systems for mobile robots necessitate sensors and representations that enable a real-time reactive behavior. The log-polar transform has been shown to be a variable resolution scheme that achieves a high compression of the non-foveal part of an image. Such space variant sensors must inevitably be active in order to utilize the high-and homogeneous resolution fovea. We study here...
