چکیده

This paper describes a processing technique that can be used to combine information from different medical analyzes to discriminate between different pathologies that have similar symptoms. The paper is focused on the differentiation between asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema, using only functional noninvasive tests, but the proposed technique can be easily applied to other similar situations where different tests have to be used to identify a pathology. The technique is based on mixed neural-and-conventional processing that not only suggests the pathology, but also estimates the reliability of this suggestion.

A diagnostic model for cirrhosis in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: an artificial neural network approach

Background :Timely diagnosis of liver cirrhosis is vital for preventing further liver damage and giving the patient the chance of transplantation. Although biopsy of the liver is the gold standard for cirrhosis assessment, it has some risks and limitations and this has led to the development of new noninvasive methods to determine the stage and prognosis of the patients. We aimed to design an...

Prediction of the changes in physicochemical properties of key lime juice during IR thermal processing by artificial neural networks

Thermal processing of the key lime juice leads to the inactivation of pectin methylesterase (PME) and the degradation of ascorbic acid (AA). These changes affect directly the cloud stability and color of the juice. In this study, an artificial neural network (ANN) model was applied for designing and developing an intelligent system for prediction of the thermal processing effects on the physico...

Distinguishing Functional Constipation from Organic Causes in Children

The diagnosis of functional constipation (FC) is usually straightforward. Almost 95% of childhood constipation is functional in nature. The remaining 5% can be attributed to wide variety of conditions. Many of these etiologies are obvious by history and examination and many have other specific symptoms besides constipation. It is especially important to look for presence of any symptoms or si...

Mapping rabbit whisker barrels using discriminant analysis of high field fMRI data

High field (>4T) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) techniques provide increased spatial resolution that enables the noninvasive, repeatable study of the sensory cortices at the level of their basic functional units. The examination of these units is important for studies of sensory information processing, learning- or experience-related brain plasticity, or the fundamental relationsh...

Combination of Transformed-means Clustering and Neural Networks for Short-Term Solar Radiation Forecasting

In order to provide an efficient conversion and utilization of solar power, solar radiation datashould be measured continuously and accurately over the long-term period. However, the measurement ofsolar radiation is not available to all countries in the world due to some technical and fiscal limitations. Hence, several studies were proposed in the literature to find mathematical and physical mod...
