Predicting Bird Habitat Quality From a Geospatial Analysis of FIA Data

چکیده
—The ability to assess the influence of site-scale forest structure on avian habitat suitability at an ecoregional scale remains a major methodological constraint to effective biological planning for forest land birds in North America. We evaluated the feasibility of using forest inventory and analysis (FIA) data to define vegetation structure within forest patches, which were delineated from independent geospatial data sets of ecological subsection, forest type, and landform class. We used Swainson’s warbler (Limnothlypis swainsonii, Audubon) as a model to demonstrate how to integrate FIA data with geospatial data sets to estimate and monitor habitat suitability for a priority bird species in the West Gulf Coastal Plain/Ouachita Mountains Bird Conservation Region.

Understorey bird responses to the edge-interior gradient in an isolated tropical rainforest of Malaysia
Forest fragmentation results in a loss of forest interior and an increase in edge habitat. We studied how understorey bird community composition and habitat variables changed along an edge-to-interior gradient in a 1248-ha lowland rainforest patch in peninsular Malaysia. Birds and environmental variables such as vegetation structure and litter depth were detected within a 25-m radius of each of...
متن کاملMapping Migratory Bird Prevalence Using Remote Sensing Data Fusion
BACKGROUND Improved maps of species distributions are important for effective management of wildlife under increasing anthropogenic pressures. Recent advances in lidar and radar remote sensing have shown considerable potential for mapping forest structure and habitat characteristics across landscapes. However, their relative efficacies and integrated use in habitat mapping remain largely unexpl...
متن کاملAnalysis of Educational Services Distribution and Accessibility as Education Quality Indicators: Evidence from Geospatial Analysis and Administrative Time Series Data (Case Study: Gambela City, Gambella Regional State, Ethiopia, East Africa)
It is universally agreed concept that education is a corner stone for socio economic transformation. Education has been recognized as weapon to fight backwardness, poverty and illiteracy for ages. Experience have shown that all the good benefit of education has been assured only when there is quality education. However, there are visible indicators that education quality has not been still a...
متن کاملOne Hundred Fifty Years of Change in Forest Bird Breeding Habitat: Estimates of Species Distributions
Evaluating bird population trends requires baseline data. In North America the earliest population data available are those from the late 1960s. Forest conditions in the northern Great Lake states (U.S.A.), however, have undergone succession since the region was originally cut over around the turn of the twentieth century, and it is expected that bird populations have undergone concomitant chan...

Large scale land use/cover changes and habitat fragmentation have been associated with the decline of many wildlife populations in ecological sensitive regions. The main goal of this study was to quantify the spatial pattern changes in Caucasian Black Grouse habitat in Arasbaran Biosphere Reserve, Northwest of Iran in a period of 24 years (1987–2011). Caucasian black grouse (Tetrao mlokosiewicz...
