چکیده

A watershed-based segmentation approach that uses iterative bilateral smoothing with an adapting photometric similarity parameter for pre-filtering is adopted for the segmentation of rock scenes. But the resultant segmented images also contain non-rock watershed regions which are not desired for measuring rock sizes. A proximity-based classifier is applied for the removal of the latter using features that can be divided into rock shape, edge strength and region intensity characteristics. Subset feature selection based on Thornton’s seperability index is used to remove redundant and irrelevant features. We achieve final classification rates of 89.91% using a simple k-nearest neighbor Classifier.

Morphological segmentation on learned boundaries

Colour information is usually not enough to segment natural complex scenes. Texture contains relevant information that segmentation approaches should consider. Martin et al. (2004) proposed a particularly interesting colour-texture gradient. This gradient is not suitable for Watershed based approaches because it contains gaps. In this paper we propose a method based on the distance function to ...

A Novel Spot-Enhancement Anisotropic Diffusion Method for the Improvement of Segmentation in Two-dimensional Gel Electrophoresis Images, Based on the Watershed Transform Algorithm

Introduction Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DGE) is a powerful technique in proteomics for protein separation. In this technique, spot segmentation is an essential stage, which can be challenging due to problems such as overlapping spots, streaks, artifacts and noise. Watershed transform is one of the common methods for image segmentation. Nevertheless, in 2DGE image segmentation, the no...

Parallel Marker Based Image Segmentation with Watershed Transformation Parallel Marker Based Watershed Transformation

The parallel watershed transformation used in grayscale image segmentation is here augmented to perform with the aid of a priori supplied image cues, called markers. The reason for introducing markers is to calibrate a resilient algorithm to oversegmenta-tion. In a hybrid fashion, pixels are rst clustered based on spatial proximity and graylevel homogeneity with the watershed transformation. Bo...
