چکیده

Flow recession curves of rivers are commonly simulated by the equation of a single linear reservoir which is determined by one parameter, the retention constant. In reality, however, retention-discharge characteristics are hardly linear and recession curves can be approximated only sectionwise by linear reservoirs with retention "constant" values which increase while discharge decreases. In the present study a nonlinear reservoir algorithm with an exponential relationship between storage and discharge of the type S = a-Çt is applied on given recession curves of gauging stations in different regions. The coefficients are determined by iterative curve fitting or a non linear regression procedure. Resulting computed recession curves show an excellent fit to the given data. In most cases the obtained power coefficient b is about 0.4, thus the storage-discharge relationship is far from being linear. The model parameters are related to catchment properties for regional analysis and physical interpretation.

Nonlinear Analysis of Flow-induced Vibration in Fluid-conveying Structures using Differential Transformation Method with Cosine-Aftertreatment Technique

In this work, analytical solutions are provided to the nonlinear equations arising in thermal and flow-induced vibration in fluid-conveying structures using Galerkin-differential transformation method with cosine aftertreatment technique. From the analysis, it was established that increase of the length and aspect ratio of the fluid-conveying structures result in decrease the nonlinear vibratio...

Statistical model of daily flow in arid and semi arid regions

Abstract Stochastic model for synthetic data generation is not available for daily flows of intermittent streams. Such a model is required in the planning and operation of structures on an intermittent stream for purposes where short time flow fluctuations are important. In this study a model is developed for such a case. The model consists of four steps: determination of the days on which fl...

On the use of the Boussinesq equation for interpreting recession hydrographs from sloping aquifers

[1] The method of recession analysis proposed by Brutsaert and Nieber (1977) remains one of the few analytical tools for estimating aquifer hydraulic parameters at the field scale and beyond. In the method, the recession hydrograph is examined as dQ/dt = f(Q), where Q is aquifer discharge and f is an arbitrary function. The observed function f is parameterized through analytical solutions to th...

Analysis of Khorramabad Motahari Karstic Springhead (Sarab) Recession Curve Based on Recession Coefficient during Hydro-Climatic Fluctuations

The hydrographic specifications of the karstic spring and the recession coefficient can reflect the hydro-climatic fluctuations and physical and geological characteristics of the aquifer system recharging the spring. In this study, in order to identify the hydrological geological behavior of Khorramabad Motahhari karstic Springhead (Sarab) during hydro-climatic fluctuations, quantitative analys...

Estimation of aquifer lower layer hydraulic conductivity values through base flow hydrograph rising limb analysis

[1] The estimation of catchment-averaged aquifer hydraulic conductivity values is usually performed through a base flow recession analysis. Relationships between the first time derivatives of the base flow and the base flow values themselves, derived for small and large values of time, are used for this purpose. However, in the derivation of the short-time equations, an initially fully saturate...
