چکیده

The definition of the train loading plan is one of the decisional aspects to be dealt with in a container terminal [1]. In the literature, few research studies have been devoted to the train load planning problem; among them, in [2] three different integer linear programming formulations are proposed in which the real weight restrictions related to wagons configurations are considered, as in the present work. The model proposed in this paper is the extended version of the models described in [3]; the main new modelling aspects of this work in comparison with [3] refer to considering multiple trains, with different destinations, and taking into account the minimization of the distances between the stocking area and the train. In the proposed model, the trains are supposed to be loaded by cranes sequentially and some rehandling operations in the stocking area are allowed. The decision problem can be defined as follows: given a set of containers characterized by different weights, lengths, commercial values and stowage positions in the yard and a set of trains composed by a set of wagons characterized by different lengths and weight restrictions, the problem is to determine how to assign containers to wagons in order to satisfy the physical constraints of wagons, while maximizing the train utilization and minimizing both the rehandling cost in the stoking area and the distances covered to transfer containers from the stocking area to the wagons.

Comparison of AHP and FAHP for Selecting Yard Gantry Cranes in Marine Container Terminals

The time that containerships or transportation trucks spend in marine container terminals for loading and unloading their cargo is a real cost scenario which affects, not only the smooth operation of ports, but also affect the overall cost of container trade. The operators of shipping lines and container terminals are required to realize the importance of this issue and the costs associated wit...

Quay Cranes and Yard Trucks Scheduling Problem at Container Terminals

A bi-objective mathematical model is developed to simultaneously consider the quay crane and yard truck scheduling problems at container terminals. Main real-world assumptions, such as quay cranes with non-crossing constraints, quay cranes’ safety margins and precedence constraints are considered in this model. This integrated approach leads to better efficiency and productivity at container te...

Simulation Modeling and Analysis of Complex Port Operations with Multimodal Transportation

World trade has been increasing dramatically in the past two decades, and as a result containers exchange has grown significantly. Accordingly, container terminals are expanding to meet this increase and new container ports have opened. Ports with one or more container terminals are considered complex systems in which many resources, entities and transporters interact to achieve the objective o...

Yard crane scheduling in port container terminals using genetic algorithm

Yard crane is an important resource in container terminals. Efficient utilization of the yard crane significantly improves the productivity and the profitability of the container terminal. This paper presents a mixed integer programming model for the yard crane scheduling problem with non- interference constraint that is NPHARD in nature. In other words, one of the most important constraints in...

Receding–horizon optimal control for container transfer in intermodal terminals

A major feature of intermodal transportation systems is the presence of large container terminals, where loading and unloading of containers are split in different tasks that depend on carrier categories, cargo types and service requirements. The efficiency of a terminal is influenced by the ability to manage the various transfer tasks done by means of quay cranes, transfer cranes, trucks and s...
