Eruptive melanocytic nevi heralding the diagnosis of metastatic malignant melanoma: A case report

چکیده
EMN: eruptive melanocytic nevi EMMM: epidermotropic metastatic malignant melanoma ITM: in-transit metastases INTRODUCTION Eruptive melanocytic nevi (EMN) are an unusual phenomenon characterized by the rapid appearance of multiple melanocytic nevi. Whether atypical or benign, EMN are associated with various medications and diseases but not previously with melanoma. EMN have been described in internal malignancy, such as prostate cancer, in which it is proposed as a paraneoplastic phenomenon, although the mechanism is unclear. One cutaneous phenomenon that arises from primary melanoma is epidermotropic metastatic malignant melanoma (EMMM), whereby malignant cells migrate from the dermal metastasis into the epidermis. Epidermotropic metastases are metachronous with the primary tumor or appear after resection or treatment of the primary disease, and melanoma is no exception. Eruptive nevi may be clinically mistaken as EMMM; therefore, making the distinction is important. We report a case of a patient who had 2 concurrent primary melanomas treated with wide local resection and in whom EMN developed, with no signs of EMMM, 8 weeks before diagnosis of widespread metastatic melanoma.

Malignant melanoma in children is rare. It can arise from congenital melanocytic nevi. In pediatric patients, diagnosis of melanoma is difficult and challenging because the physicians have a low index of suspicion. Marrow metastasis in malignant melanoma especially in children is extremely uncommon. Here, the authors reported a 5 year old girl who was presented with a 4 month history of pelvic ...

متن کاملNonpigmented Metastatic Melanoma in a Two-Year-Old Girl: A Serious Diagnostic Dilemma
Although rare, malignant melanoma may occur in children. Childhood melanomas account for only 0.3-3% of all melanomas. In particular the presence of congenital melanocytic nevi is associated with an increased risk of development of melanoma. We herein report a case of malignant melanoma that developed on a giant congenital melanocytic nevus and made a metastasis to the subcutaneous tissue of ne...
متن کاملEstrogen Receptor Beta Expression in Melanomas Versus Dysplastic Nevi
Dear Editor-in-ChiefMalignant melanoma is a tumor arising from melanocyte; this tumor rarely occurs before puberty, with higher mortality rate in males and better survival rate in female patients affected by metastatic melanoma (1, 2). These facts propose that a relationship and association may exist between estrogens and melanoma. The effects of estrogens are mediated by...
