Eye-hand-workspace calibration using laser pointer projection on plane surface

چکیده
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose a calibration method that can calibrate the relationships among the robot manipulator, the camera and the workspace. Design/methodology/approach – The method uses a laser pointer rigidly mounted on the manipulator and projects the laser beam on the work plane. Nonlinear constraints governing the relationships of the geometrical parameters and measurement data are derived. The uniqueness of the solution is guaranteed when the camera is calibrated in advance. As a result, a decoupled multi-stage closed-form solution can be derived based on parallel line constraints, line/plane intersection and projective geometry. The closed-form solution can be further refined by nonlinear optimization which considers all parameters simultaneously in the nonlinear model. Findings – Computer simulations and experimental tests using actual data confirm the effectiveness of the proposed calibration method and illustrate its ability to work even when the eye cannot see the hand. Originality/value – Only a laser pointer is required for this calibration method and this method can work without any manual measurement. In addition, this method can also be applied when the robot is not within the camera field of view.

متن کاملCalibration of the depth measurement system with a laser pointer , a camera and a plain mirror
Active lighting [1-6] techniques have been used extensively in vision applications for depth measurement and 3-D surface reconstruction. Although measuring the distance and orientation of a planar surface using nonstructured lighting [1] is possible, many studies in this area focused on structured lighting. Multiple striped lights [2,3] and rectangular grid of lines [4] are examples of light pa...

This paper introduces a cross-platform low-cost system for 3D object reconstruction using a projection-based laser scanner. It uses contact-free measurement techniques for 3D object reconstruction and fast surface registration using Iterative Closest Point (ICP) [1]. The only hardware requirements are a simple hand-held laser line projector, a calibration rig and a standard camera. The camera i...
متن کاملEnhanced Monocular Visual Odometry Integrated with Laser Distance Meter for Astronaut Navigation
Visual odometry provides astronauts with accurate knowledge of their position and orientation. Wearable astronaut navigation systems should be simple and compact. Therefore, monocular vision methods are preferred over stereo vision systems, commonly used in mobile robots. However, the projective nature of monocular visual odometry causes a scale ambiguity problem. In this paper, we focus on the...
