Channel assignment for GSM half-rate and full-rate traffic

چکیده
Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) supports full-rate and half-rate calls. In this paper, we propose analytical and simulation models to study the performance of four channel assignment schemes for GSM half-rate and full-rate traac. Our study indicates that among the four schemes, the repacking scheme has the best performance for mixing half-rate and full-rate traac. We also observe that good performance is expected if the standard derivation of the cell residence time for a mobile station is large.

GSM EFR based multi-rate codec family
This paper describes a multi-rate codec family developed as a potential candidate for the GSM Adaptive Multi Rate (AMR) codec standard. The codec family consists of the GSM Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) codec [I] and lower bit-rate extensions thereof: The codec family consists of several codecs, i.e., modes that have different bit-rate partitionings between source coding and error protection. All th...
متن کاملTraffic Analysis and Optimization of GSM Network
Accurate traffic dimensioning plays an important role in telecommunications network planning and is particularly important for the performance analysis of mobile and wireless networks. The main goal of cellular operators now a day with the increasing number of mobile subscribers is to keep the subscribers satisfied with the delivered quality of service ( QoS ) . Traffic analysis & optimization ...

Half-Rate (HR) channel coding can be used to deal with temporary traffic peaks in Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)/Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) Radio Access Networks. Since operators have to pay for the use of HR codecs, the number of transceivers on which HR can be used is normally limited. An algorithm that optimizes the assignment of a limited number of HR cod...
متن کاملOn Joint Sub-channel Allocation, Duplexing Mode Selection, and Power Control in Full-Duplex Co-Channel Femtocell Networks
As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...
متن کاملA multi-rate speech and channel codec: a GSM AMR half-rate candidate
The current GSM standard is a fixed rate system which has been optimised to give good performance in all channel conditions. However since the channel conditions in a terrestrial mobile communication network such as GSM vary significantly between the best and the worst case, the existing GSM speech and channel coding performance can be improved by incorporating the dynamic channel conditions in...
