Treatment of implanted peritoneal cancer in rats by continuous hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion in combination with an anticancer drug.

چکیده
To study the feasibility of combined hyperthermic and anticancer drug treatment for peritoneal cancer, we devised a continuous hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion system in combination with mitomycin C. The model uses i.p.-transplantable rat ascites hepatoma 100B cells. Hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion alone or combined with mitomycin C was performed after i.p. inoculation of the tumor cells into rats. In rats treated with combined peritoneal perfusion (41.5 degrees) and mitomycin C, the mean survival times were significantly prolonged as compared to those of rats treated with peritoneal perfusion at 41.5 degrees alone. Our results suggest that combined hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion and mitomycin C treatment may represent a therapeutic and prophylactic treatment for peritoneal metastasis after gastric cancer surgery in humans.

Pharmacokinetics of cisplatin in semi-closed hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion (HPP) for treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis.
BACKGROUND This study investigates the pharmacokinetics and toxicity of cisplatin, admininistered by a new semi-closed hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion (HPP) technique to patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS After surgical cytoreduction, 12 patients were given cisplatin 100 mg/m2 (CDDP), introduced into the HPP circuit for 60 min at 41.7 degrees C and 1200 ml/min fl...

The feasibility and efficacy of treating peritoneal cancer implants by applying heat to the peritoneal surfaces were studied in inbred Buffalo A rats given i.p. injections of Morris hepatoma 5123TC tumor cells. Heat was delivered to the peritoneum by contact with a heated physiological salt solution (Normosol-R) in the peritoneal cavity. A treatment temperature of 43.3 +/- 0.3 degrees was maint...
متن کاملFeasibility of peritonectomy associated with intraperitoneal hyperthermic perfusion in patients with Pseudomyxoma peritonei.
AIMS AND BACKGROUND Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rare disease characterized by a complete redistribution of mucin within the peritoneal cavity. It can be classified into three histologic groups: disseminated peritoneal adenomucinosis, peritoneal mucinous carcinomatosis, and an intermediate group. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of cytoreductive surgery requiring peri...
متن کاملIntraperitoneal Chemotherapy as a Multimodal Treatment for Gastric Cancer Patients with Peritoneal Metastasis
Peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer is mainly caused by the dispersion of free cancer cells from the serosal surface of the invaded stomach, from surgically transected lymphatic channels, and from tumor cell-containing blood from the primary lesion into the peritoneal cavity. Intraperitoneal chemotherapy (IPC) combined with surgery has performed for the prevention and treatment of peritonea...
متن کاملCurrent status and future directions in gastric cancer with peritoneal dissemination.
Peritoneal carcinomatosis arising from gastric cancer is mostly associated with poor prognosis. Despite the improvement of survival with modern polychemotherapy, the results are still unsatisfactory. Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy might provide an additional therapeutic option for highly selected patients with gastric cancer and peritoneal metastasis leading...
