Genetic counselling in hereditary osteo-onychodysplasia (HOOD, nail-patella syndrome) with nephropathy.

چکیده
Hereditary osteo-onychodysplasia (HOOD, nail-patella syndrome) is an autosomal dominant condition characterised by nail dysplasia, patellar hypoplasia or aplasia, and nephropathy. The risk for HOOD patients to have a child with HOOD who will develop renal failure cannot easily be deduced from published pedigrees. We have studied a large family with 30 patients with HOOD and have analysed 34 kindreds with HOOD nephropathy from published reports, comprising 213 patients. For a patient with HOOD from a family in which HOOD nephropathy occurs, the risk of having a child with HOOD nephropathy is about 1:4; the risk of having a child in whom renal failure will develop is about 1:10.

Nail-patella syndrome is a rare disorder, which is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. This condition is also known as hereditary osteo-onychodysplasia or Fong's syndrome. Posterior iliac horns are commonly found in this syndrome and are considered pathognomonic. In this report, we describe the appearance, location, and structure of iliac horns with respect to radiography and magnetic res...

It is interesting that every time a family is discovered to have the nail-patella syndrome (hereditary onycho-osteo-arthrodysplasia) certain new features hitherto undescribed are added. It is because of this that such families should be reported so that there will be a clearer picture of the disease in due course. This is the third report of this condition from India, the first being by Maini a...

Nail-patella syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by dyplasia of finger nails, skeletal anomalies, and, frequently, renal disease. It has recently been shown that this disorder is caused by putative loss-of-function mutations in a transcription factor (LMX1B) belonging to the LIMhomeodomain family, members of which are known to be important for pattern formation during devel...

We herein report a case of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) prior to overt orthopedic symptoms in a patient with NPS. CASE PRESENTATION A 24-year-old woman presented to our hospital with knee ...
