Levels of coagulation factors and venous thromboembolism.
نویسنده
چکیده
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Altered levels of coagulation factors have been included among the abnormalities that may increase the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in otherwise healthy subjects. INFORMATION SOURCES According to the studies that have been carried to test this hypothesis only elevated levels of factor VIII and fibrinogen emerged as independent risk factors for VTE. STATE OF THE ART AND PERSPECTIVES Although some data indicate that elevated levels of factor XI or IX are also determinants for VTE, this awaits confirmation.

Evaluation of the Frequency of Risk Factors in Venous Thromboembolic Patients Admitted to Ekbatan and Farshchian Hospitals in Hamadan from 2012 to 2017
Background and Objective: Venous thromboembolism is one of the major causes of mortality worldwide. Various environmental and genetic factors are known as risk factors for this disease. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the frequency of risk factors in patients with venous thromboembolism admitted to Ekbatan and Farshchian hospitals in Hamadan from 2012 to 2017. Materials and Methods:...
متن کاملRecurrent Cerebral Venous Thrombosis Associated with Elevated Factor VIII
Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) rarely recurs, and the factors associated with a recurrence remain unclear. Recently, however, elevated plasma coagulation factor VIII has been considered a factor related to recurrent venous thromboembolism. Here we report a patient who had recurrent CVT associated with significantly elevated levels of factor VIII despite the chronic use of an antiplatelet agen...
متن کاملVenous Thromboembolism Following Travel
International travel has become increasingly common and accessible, hence, about two billion passengers undertake international and domestic air travel each year. Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a serious public health disorder which may occur following prolonged travel, especially after air travel. A direct relation between VTE development and prolonged travels has been documented, while some ...
متن کاملEXPERIMENTAL STUDY Estrogen increases coagulation factor V mRNA levels via both estrogen receptor-a and -b in murine bone marrow/bone
Objectives: Both oral estrogen-based hormone-replacement therapy and contraceptives increase the risk of venous thromboembolism. Several circulating factors involved in coagulation/fibrinolysis are expressed mainly in the liver whilst some are expressed in extrahepatic tissues, including bone marrow. The aim of this study was to identify estrogen-responsive target genes involved in the pathogen...
متن کاملRecurrent Venous Thromboembolism as the Initial Clinical Presentation of Gastric Cancer: A Case Report
Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is a clinically critical disease, misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis of which can lead to increased rate of mortality. For prevention of recurrence of PTE, recognition of its risk factors or underlying diseases is of great importance. PTE is common in patients with cancer and has high morbidity and mortality rates. Although cancer is a lethal condition, PTE accele...
