چکیده

Recent studies have provided support for the conclusion of several early psychologists that con ventional names or symbols can be verbally identified faster than the simple objects or features they desig nate. Since the naming responses are identical for both types of identifications, investigators have generally attempted to account for the latency difference in terms of differences in the subject's experience with one type of stimulus as opposed to the other. One early hypothe sis, also favored by contemporary psychologists, held that more response conflict existed for concrete stimu lus features than for their conventional printed designations. Whereas most previous studies thus controlled for possible response differences, but not stimulus differences, in comparing latencies for the two types of identification tasks, the study reported in this paper attempted to control in one experiment for both stimulus and response differences. The method used was based on a technique originally devised to test for the additional delay that might be produced in making

Planning levels in naming and reading complex numerals.

On the basis of evidence from studies of the naming and reading of numerals, Ferrand (1999) argued that the naming of objects is slower than reading their names, due to a greater response uncertainty in naming than in reading, rather than to an obligatory conceptual preparation for naming, but not for reading. We manipulated the need for conceptual preparation, while keeping response uncertaint...

Naming two-digit arabic numerals: evidence from masked priming studies.

The authors investigated how 2-digit Arabic numerals are named by looking at the effects of masked primes on the naming latencies. Target numerals were named faster when prime and target shared a digit at the same position (e.g., the target 28 primed by 18 and 21). In contrast, naming latencies were slower when prime and target shared 1 or 2 digits at non-corresponding places (e.g., the target ...

Numerical modeling for nonlinear biochemical reaction networks

Nowadays, numerical models have great importance in every field of science, especially for solving the nonlinear differential equations, partial differential equations, biochemical reactions, etc. The total time evolution of the reactant concentrations in the basic enzyme-substrate reaction is simulated by the Runge-Kutta of order four (RK4) and by nonstandard finite difference (NSFD) method. A...

Object and Action Naming: A Study on Persian-Speaking Children

Objectives: Nouns and verbs are the central conceptual linguistic units of language acquisition in all human languages. While the noun-bias hypothesis claims that nouns have a privilege in children’s lexical development across languages, studies on Mandarin and Korean and other languages have challenged this view. More recent cross-linguistic naming studies on children in German, Turkish,...

A numerical investigation of a reaction-diffusion equation arises from an ecological phenomenon

This paper deals with the numerical solution of a class of reaction diffusion equations arises from ecological phenomena. When two species are introduced into unoccupied habitat, they can spread across the environment as two travelling waves with the wave of the faster reproducer moving ahead of the slower. The mathematical modelling of invasions of species in more complex settings that include ...
