چکیده

Introduction: Identifying the recurrent laryngeal nerve is the gold standard for reducing injury in thyroidectomy. Objective: To evaluate the usefulness of neuromonitoring in identifying the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Methods: This was a study of 259 recurrent laryngeal nerves at risk during thyroidectomy performed with neuromonitoring (group A: 129 nerves) and without neuromonitoring (control group B: 130 nerves). Results: The percentage of visually unidentified nerves was 18% in group A and 20% in group B, with no statistical difference. From the moment of non-identification, identification with neuromonitoring was achieved in group A in 100% of cases. The difference was statistically significant. The positive and negative predictive values of neuromonitoring were 100%. Conclusions: Neuromonitoring helps to identify the recurrent laryngeal nerve and increases the security of the surgeon in the technique. It is advisable to perform neuromonitoring routinely in thyroid surgery.

[Value of the intraoperative neuromonitoring in surgery for thyroid cancer in identification and prognosis of function of the recurrent laryngeal nerves].

INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was both, to evaluate the usefulness of the method of neuromonitoring in intraoperative identification of the RLN and to estimate its value in the prognosis of postoperative RLN function in patients operated for TC. MATERIAL AND METHODS Among 109 patients undergoing surgery for TC between 12/2004 and 12/2005 the neuromonitoring method was used in 69 (63.3%) ...

[Intraoperative neuromonitoring in thyroid surgery].

BACKGROUND Intraoperative neuromonitoring of the recurrent laryngeal nerve in thyroid surgery facilitates the identification of anatomical structures in cervical endocrine surgery reducing the frequency of vocal cord paralysis. OBJECTIVE To study the normal electrophysiological values of the vague and recurrent laryngeal nerves before and after thyroid surgery. To compare rates of injury of r...

Increased prediction of right nonrecurrent laryngeal nerve in thyroid surgery using preoperative computed tomography with intraoperative neuromonitoring identification

BACKGROUND A nonrecurrent laryngeal nerve (NRLN) is a rare but potentially serious anatomical variant. Although the incidence is reported to be 0.3% to 1.3%, it carries a much higher risk of palsy during thyroid surgery. The objective of this study is to investigate the usefulness of computed tomography (CT) for preoperative identification and intraoperative neuromonitoring identification (IONM...

Evaluation of the learning curve for intraoperative neural monitoring of the recurrent laryngeal nerves in thyroid surgery.

UNLABELLED Intraoperative neuromonitoring facilitates identification of the recurrent laryngeal nerves (RLN) and allows for predicting their postoperative function. Nevertheless, the outcome of thyroid surgery monitoring is affected by both the experience of the operator and his mastering of the technique. The aim of the study was the assessment of the learning curve for intraoperative RLN neur...

Neuromonitoring in thyroid surgery.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW Laryngeal nerve injuries are among the most important complications of thyroidectomy. Recently, the use of neuromonitoring has been increasingly employed in order to predict and document nerve function at the end of thyroidectomy. RECENT FINDINGS There is much controversy in recent studies concerning neuromonitoring in thyroid surgery. Some authors believe that the method do...
