چکیده

When moving the activity of composing music to the desktop, one of the common issues is that the interface doesn’t suggest an appropriate workflow, which would lead the user to structure up the work systematically. In conventional interfaces, musical elements are scattered over the sequencers and are thus visually unperceivable by the user. The semantics of music can be employed to put the elements in a coherent order, which would better assist the user at maintaining the intricate materials. Stepping further into the rhythmic part of music, this thesis will demonstrate a disk-based interface that helps the user create patterns easier.

DISCO: A Multilingual Database of Distributionally Similar Words

This paper1 presents DISCO, a tool for retrieving the distributional similarity between two given words, and for retrieving the distributionally most similar words for a given word. Pre-computed word spaces are freely available for a number of languages including English, German, French and Italian, so DISCO can be used off the shelf. The tool is implemented in Java, provides a Java API, and ca...

DISCO: A System Leveraging Semantic Search in Document Review

This paper presents Disco, a prototype for supporting knowledge workers in exploring, reviewing and sorting collections of textual data. The goal is to facilitate, accelerate and improve the discovery of information. To this end, it combines Semantic Relatedness techniques with a review workflow developed in a tangible environment. Disco uses a semantic model that is leveraged on-line in the co...

Interfacing Constraint-Based Grammars and Generation Algorithms

Constraint-based grammars can, in principle, serve as the major linguistic knowledge source for both parsing and generation. Surface generation starts from input semantics representations that may vary across grammars. For many declarative grammars, the concept of derivation implicitly built in is that of parsing. They may thus not be interpretable by a generation algorithm. We show that lingui...

Applied and Proposed Installations with Silent Disco Headphones for Multi-Elemental Creative Expression

Breaking musical and creative expression into elements, layers, and formulas, we explore how live listeners create unique sonic experiences from a palette of these elements and their interactions. Bringing us to present-day creative applications, a social and historical overview of silent disco is presented. The advantages of this active listening interface are outlined by the author’s expressi...
