SNMMI Leadership Update: SNMMI 2018 Mid-Winter Symposium in Orlando: Focus on Theranostics.

T he SNMMI 2018 Mid-Winter Symposium and American College of Nuclear Medicine (ACNM) Annual Meeting will be held at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista in Orlando, FL. This year, the SNMMI format will be different. Now called a symposium, it will have a single track on theranostics and will begin on Thursday afternoon, January 25, and conclude on Saturday evening, January 27—eliminating Sunday from the schedule. The ACNM Annual Meeting will expand by a half day, beginning Thursday afternoon and ending Saturday evening. With the development of new, innovative theranostics, nuclear medicine and molecular imaging are at the forefront of health care—expanding the frontiers of what is possible in precision medicine. The Mid-Winter Symposium is an opportunity for professionals in the field from around the globe to collaborate, share research developments, and discuss common interests. Symposium sessions will cover current and future applications of theranostics; a particles; 131I, the first theranostic (for treatment of thyroid cancer); the theranostic pairing of 68Ga-DOTATATE, to identify somatostatin receptor–positive neuroendocrine tumors, with 177Lu-DOTATATE, a peptide receptor radionuclide therapy; new theranostics targeting prostate cancer and other diseases; and theranostics in practice. The ACNM Annual Meeting will run concurrently with the SNMMI symposium. It will, as always, have a scientific program with oral and poster presentations and the exhibit hall, featuring the latest technologies and products in the field. The Friday plenary speech on “The business of imaging: The new workplace realities” will be given by Geraldine McGinty, MD, MBA, chief strategy and contracting officer, Weill Cornell Medicine Physician Organization (New York, NY). Oral presentations will take place on Thursday. Friday and Saturday sessions will cover topics from cardiac, pulmonary, and thyroid imaging to new developments in nuclear medicine. The REAC/TS Radiation Safety Certification Course will be held on Saturday, as will case reviews and discussion of response criteria. The banquet and awards ceremony will be held Friday evening.
