Partial auriculotomy for exposure of tumors of the external auditory meatus and conchal bowl.

چکیده
Gaining adequate visual exposure and mechanical access to tumors arising in the conchal bowl area can be difficult. Having a surgical assistant flatten the natural concavity of the bowl with pressure from behind may be of some help. Furthermore, the use of an angled beaver blade may improve the maneuverability of the scalpel in this tight space. However, even with these adjunctive measures, surgery in this area can be challenging. Mohs micrographic surgery, which requires a continuous mapped plane of tissue to be excised, poses even greater difficulty.

Anatomical characteristics of the conchal cartilage with suggested clinical applications in rhinoplasty surgery.
BACKGROUND Numerous cartilage grafts from a number of donor sites have been described, each with a different shape and size. These donor sites include the nasal septum, costal chondral cartilage, and the conchal bowl. Although harvests from the conchal bowl are commonly-employed, the techniques have been minimally-described in the literature, particularly as it applies to rhinoplasty. OBJECTI...
متن کاملA Novel Meatoplasty Method in Canal Wall Down Tympanomastoidectomy: A Perichondrial Posterior Fixation Technique
OBJECTIVES Although it is well recognized that a small meatus after canal wall down (CWD) tympanomastoidectomy can cause a lifetime problem, unsatisfactory results are frequently encountered. We herein introduce a novel technique, perichondrial posterior fixation (PPF), to maintain a wide external auditory canal (EAC), to minimize postoperative wound infection due to the smaller dead space and ...
متن کاملEar reconstruction utilizing the subcutaneous island pedicle graft (flip-flop) flap.
SOFT TISSUE RECONSTRUCTION of the conchal aspects of the external ear includes a variety of approaches, including granulation, graft, or local skin flap. We describe our experience with the single-stage subcutaneous island pedicle graft (flip-flop) flap for reconstruction of defects with a significant amount of exposed cartilage involving primarily the concha, antitragus, antihelix, and externa...
متن کامل[Ceruminous gland adenoma of the external auditory canal: a case report].
Ceruminous adenoma (ceruminoma) of the external auditory meatus is a rare neoplasm with benign clinical behavior. This tumor is mainly composed of the ceruminous gland cells (modified apocrine sweat glands). These glands are localized deep in the skin mostly in the cartilaginous part of the external auditory meatus. The most often symptom of the ceruminous adenoma of external auditory meatus is...
متن کاملThe Importance of a Conchal Bowl Element in the Fabrication of a Three-Dimensional Framework in Total Auricular Reconstruction
BACKGROUND To construct a sophisticated three-dimensional framework, numerous modifications have been reported in the literature. However, most surgeons have paid little attention to the anatomical configuration of the concha and more to its deepness and hollowness, leading to unsatisfactory outcomes. METHODS For a configuration of the concha that is definitely anatomical, the author further ...
