Appendicitis and Enterobiasis in Children

چکیده
When the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal organs are fixed by a formol-vapour method the surface of these structures appears to be covered by a 'cellular layer' (considered by orthodox histologists to be formed by a debris of cells, mucus and food remnants). This upper structure can be followed from the corneal layer of the stratified tissue of the oesophageal cardia to its ending in the similar layer of the anal skin. It does not stain by any of the mucin stains, it leaves ash after micro-incineration, it contains a large sequence of nuclei and in some places gives the impression that it contains capillaries (Duran-Jorda, 1946). It was to study its morphological changes in appendicitis that a systematic study was made of appendices removed in this hospital during a period of 21 months, in all a total of 691 appendicular organs. During this histological study Enterobius vermicularis was so frequently found in the sections that it was decided to pay it special attention with the purpose of establishing the role, if any, of the parasite in the aetiology of appendicitis.

متن کاملEnterobius Vermicularis infection of the appendix as a cause of acute appendicitis in a Greek adolescent: a case report
Gastrointestinal infection due to Enterobius vermicularis occurs worldwide and is considered to be the most common helminth infection. The simple presence of E. vermicularis in the appendix usually produces symptoms of acute appendicitis. The association of this parasitic infestation with acute appendicitis varies from 0.2%-41.8% worldwide. We present a case of a 15 year old female with enterob...
متن کاملThe Study Of Diagnostic Value of Elevation of Serum Amylase as a Predictive Factor for Appendiceal Perforation in Children with Acute Appendicitis
Background Recent studies indicate increased serum amylase in children with acute appendicitis. The objective of the current study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of raised serum amylase level in prediction of perforated appendicitis in children with acute appendicitis. Materials and Methods In this cross-sectional study, 61 children (aged 3 to 15 years) who underwent appendectomy su...
