چکیده

lntraosseous hemangiomas are benign tumors occurring most often in the skull and vertebrae. Rarely , these lesions can present in the maxilla and mandible. We found in the literature a case of an intraosseous hemangioma involving the mandibular condyle (1 ). We wish to report the panoramic zonographic, computed tomographic, and pathologic findings of another case involving both the condyle and proximal ramus.

Novel three-dimensional position analysis of the mandibular foramen in patients with skeletal class III mandibular prognathism

PURPOSE To analyze the relative position of the mandibular foramina (MnFs) in patients diagnosed with skeletal class III malocclusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS Computed tomography (CT) images were collected from 85 patients. The vertical lengths of each anatomic point from the five horizontal planes passing through the MnF were measured at the coronoid process, sigmoid notch, condyle, and the go...

Osteochondroma of the mandibular condyle: Resection and reconstruction using vertical sliding osteotomy of the mandibular ramus.

Osteochondroma is one of the most common benign bone tumours, although not in the craniofacial region. More than half of these appear in the coronoid process. It can appear on the mandibular condyle, especially in its medial half, and mainly affects women aged around forty years. We present the case of a 51-year-old woman with pain of several months' duration in the right temporomandibular join...

Osteochondroma of the mandibular condyle: literature review and report of a case.

AIM The intent of this report is to present a brief review of the literature on osteochondroma and to present a case involving the surgical removal and replacement of a major portion of the condyle and angle of the mandible using free autogenous mandibular bone. BACKGROUND While osteochondroma is the most common tumor of skeletal bones, it is relatively uncommon in the jaws occurring at the c...

Panoramic radiography: effects of head alignment on the vertical dimension of the mandibular ramus and condyle region.

The aim of this study was to assess whether it is possible to derive accurate vertical measurements of the mandibular ramus and condyle from panoramic radiographs. A human dry skull was positioned in a panoramic machine. The skull was displaced along the sagittal and transverse plane and rotated around the vertical and transverse axes. A set of 252 digital radiographs with defined positioning e...

Scanning electron microscopy of mineralized cartilage in rat mandibular condyle.

The pattern of mineralization was studied in the mandibular condyle of the young adult rat. Specimens were rendered anorganic in NaOC1 and examined in a scanning electron microscope. A mineralized cartilage front was found to persist on the articular aspect of the condyle. The surface is characterized by closely approximating chondrocyte lacunae enclosed to different degrees within the minerali...
