چکیده
The accumulation of plaque can reduce signifi cantly the fl ow of blood through a coronary artery — a problem that can result in angina (pain in the chest directly related to the restricted blood fl ow). More serious damage occurs when a plaque ruptures, causing the formation of blood clots that block the fl ow of blood. If a blockage occurs in a coronary blood vessel, the result is a heart attack, which can lead to the death of the part of the heart that is deprived of blood; if a blockage occurs in an artery that carries blood to the brain, the result is a stroke, which can lead to the death of the portion of the brain that is deprived of blood.

Human error analysis of commercial aviation accidents: application of the Human Factors Analysis and Classification system (HFACS).
BACKGROUND The Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) is a general human error framework originally developed and tested within the U.S. military as a tool for investigating and analyzing the human causes of aviation accidents. Based on Reason's (1990) model of latent and active failures, HFACS addresses human error at all levels of the system, including the condition of aircr...

The study, by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Civil Aeromedical Institute (CAMI) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, found that one such personal computer (PC)–based simulator “can be a useful and economical tool for examining experimental questions involving general aviation pilotage,” despite some minor drawbacks. Although this study examined the uses of PCs and standard software for g...
متن کاملHuman Factors in Aviation Maintenance: Program Overview
This report details the second phase of the Office of Aviation Medicine research program on Human Factors in Aviation Maintenance. This on-going research program enhances human performance in the aviation maintenance system to ensure continuing flight safety and operational efficiency. The research program, as reported in the Phase I report (Shepherd, Johnson, Drury, Taylor, & Berninger, 1991) ...
متن کاملDesign, Implementation and Evaluation of a Performance Enhancement System for Aviation Safety Inspectors
Previous publications from the Aviation Medicine Human Factors in Aviation Maintenance research programs have defined human factors and have emphasized the focus on the human as the central part of a technical system (FAA/AAM & GSC, 1993; Johnson & Shepherd, 1993). The human is affected by such factors as personnel selection, training, job design, and environmental issues, as examples. The desi...
متن کاملHuman factors and error prevention in emergency medicine.
Emergency departments are one of the highest risk areas in health care. Emergency physicians have to assemble and manage unrehearsed multidisciplinary teams with little notice and manage critically ill patients. With greater emphasis on management and leadership skills, there is an increasing awareness of the importance of human factors in making changes to improve patient safety. Non-clinical ...
