Comparative Visual Analysis of 2D Function Ensembles

چکیده
In the development process of powertrain systems, 2D function ensembles frequently occur in the context of multirun simulations. An analysis has many facets, including distributions of extracted features, comparisons between ensemble members and target functions, and details-on-demand. The primary contribution of this paper is a design study of an interactive approach for a comparative visual analysis of 2D function ensembles. The design focuses on a tight integration of domain-oriented and member-oriented visualization techniques, and it seeks to preserve the mental model of 2D functions on multiple levels of detail. In this context, we propose a novel focus+context approach for visualizations relying on data-driven placement which is based on labeling. We also extend work on feature-preserving downsampling of 2D functions. Our design supports a comparison of 2D functions based on juxtaposition, overlay, and explicit differences. It also enables an analysis in terms of extracted scalar features and 1D aggregations. An evaluation illustrates a workflow in our application context. User feedback indicates a time saving of 70% for common tasks and a qualitative gain for the entire development process.

Comparison of Effectiveness of Presenting Images in Visual Education of Students on Brain Function
Background & Aim: Instead of being based on reality, theoretical approaches related to the occurrence of learning are more based on the observations by researchers. One of the approaches is the study of the effect of changes in virtual education based on the physiological approach. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of presentation of images in visual education on the brain function ...
متن کاملComparative Visual Analysis of Transport Variability in Flow Ensembles
We propose a novel approach that enables a comparative visual exploration of the transport variability in ensembles of 2D flow fields. To reveal when and where divergences in transport occur, we first present a new approach to analyze the time-varying pairwise dissimilarities of ensemble trajectories, by using Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) to identify the distribution modes and the Mahalanobis...
متن کاملVisualizing Static Ensembles For Effective Shape and Data Comparison
Ensembles are large, multidimensional, multivariate datasets generated in areas like physical and natural science to study real-world phenomena. Simulations or experiments are run repeatedly with slightly different initial parameters, producing members of the ensemble. The need to compare data and spatial properties, both within an individual member and across multiple members, makes analysis c...
متن کاملComparative Visual Analysis of Lagrangian Transport in CFD Ensembles
Sets of simulation runs based on parameter and model variation, so-called ensembles, are increasingly used to model physical behaviors whose parameter space is too large or complex to be explored automatically. Visualization plays a key role in conveying important properties in ensembles, such as the degree to which members of the ensemble agree or disagree in their output. For ensembles of tim...
