چکیده
Rabies in an Eastern chipmunk was detected by fluorescent-antibody testing and mouse inoculation. The results were independently confirmed, and the virus was recovered from tissue culture.

Cutaneous epitheliotropic T-cell lymphoma with dissemination to the liver in an eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus).
Cutaneous epitheliotropic T-cell lymphoma with liver metastasis was diagnosed in a 10-year-old eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus). Physical findings included intracutaneous swellings, ulcerated plaques and nodules, hypotrichosis and erythema of the skin. Fine needle aspiration from the skin lesions showed a population of large lymphocytes and lymphoblasts, and was helpful in establishing the di...
متن کاملBIOS 35502-01: Practicum in Field Environmental Biology Potential Changes of Seed Predation of Tamias striatus
Eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus) is seed predator that has the ability to affect the diversity and abundance of certain tree species in a forest. This study tested the seed preference of eastern chipmunks on the border of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at University of Notre Environmental Research Center. Cafeteria style feeding trials were done in a laboratory to test the pref...
متن کاملDeterminants of population genetic structure in eastern Chipmunks (Tamias striatus): the role of landscape barriers and sex-biased dispersal.
Dispersal and gene flow are important processes affecting the evolutionary potential of wild populations. Assessing the importance of such patterns is thus critical, especially in contexts where environmental attributes may enhance or restrict the movements of individuals across patchy habitats. A landscape genetics approach is effective in that respect as it combines spatial and genetic data t...
متن کاملWest Nile Virus Viremia in Eastern Chipmunks (Tamias striatus) Sufficient for Infecting Different Mosquitoes
In eastern chipmunks (Tamias striatus) inoculated intramuscularly with 101.5 to 105.7 PFU of West Nile virus (WNV), serum titers developed sufficient to infect Aedes triseriatus (Say), Ae. vexans (Meigen), and Culex pipiens (L.). Mean titers (95% confidence interval) of 8 chipmunks were 103.9(3.3-4.5), 106.7(6.4-7.0), and 105.8(4.1-7.5) PFU/mL on days 1-3 postinoculation (p.i.) and 105.8 PFU/mL...
متن کاملSeasonal changes in thermoregulatory responses to hypoxia in the Eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus).
Mammalian heterotherms are known to be more tolerant of low oxygen levels than homeotherms. However, heterotherms demonstrate extreme seasonality in daily heterothermy and torpor expression. Because hypoxia depresses body temperature (T(b)) and metabolism in mammals, it was of interest to see if seasonal comparisons of normothermic animals of a species capable of hibernation produce changes in ...
