چکیده

This paper describes the application of a new methodology to estimate permeability of clastic rock formations based on the numerical simulation of the physics of mudfiltrate invasion. The methodology assumes a key well with a complete suite of well logs and rock-core laboratory measurements of porosity, permeability, capillary pressure, and relative permeability. For additional wells in the same field, absolute permeability is estimated by matching the shallow resistivity measurements with the electrical resistivity in the flushed zone yielded by the simulation of mud-filtrate invasion. We describe the application of this methodology to the estimation of permeability in three wells penetrating the same over-pressured tight-gas sands of the East Texas Bossier formation. Conventional rock-core porosity and permeability measurements, along with capillary pressure, are used to determine rock types and flow units in the cored key well. Estimates of permeability based on a modified version of Winland’s equation agree with the measured permeability of the available rock-core samples. Simulations of mud-filtrate invasion account for the dynamic process of immiscible flow between mud-filtrate and in-situ gas as well as for salt mixing between mud-filtrate and connate water. Moreover, the simulations properly reproduce the effect of mudcake buildup along the borehole wall. Evaluation of Rock Properties from Logs Affected by Deep Invasion – A Case Study

Seismic reservoir characterization is a well-known technique to obtain a better understanding of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs by careful analysis and integration of petrophysical and seismic data. The petrophysical properties are normally obtained through the evaluation of well logs and core data. A rock physics model provides the link between these reservoir properties and the surface seismi...

Estimation of Permeability and Permeability Anisotropy From Straddle-Packer Formation-Tester Measurements Based on the Physics of Two-Phase Immiscible Flow and Invasion

We describe the successful application of a new method to estimate permeability and permeability anisotropy from transient measurements of pressure acquired with a wireline straddle-packer formation tester. Unlike standard algorithms used for the interpretation of formation-tester measurements, the method developed in this paper incorporates the physics of two-phase immiscible flow as well as t...

Electrofacies clustering and a hybrid intelligent based method for porosity and permeability prediction in the South Pars Gas Field, Persian Gulf

This paper proposes a two-step approach for characterizing the reservoir properties of the world’s largest non-associated gas reservoir. This approach integrates geological and petrophysical data and compares them with the field performance analysis to achieve a practical electrofacies clustering. Porosity and permeability prediction is done on the basis of linear functions, succeeding the elec...

A Fully Integrated Approach for Better Determination of Fracture Parameters Using Streamline Simulation; A gas condensate reservoir case study in Iran

Many large oil and gas fields in the most productive world regions happen to be fractured. The exploration and development of these reservoirs is a true challenge for many operators. These difficulties are due to uncertainties in geological fracture properties such as aperture, length, connectivity and intensity distribution. To successfully address these challenges, it is paramount to im...

Systematic fractures analysis using image logs and complementary methods in the Marun Oilfield, SW Iran

Fractures are considered as one of the important structures in fractured reservoirs due to their effect on fluid currents and reservoirparameters such as porosity and permeability. Fracture parameters can only be directly calculated with core and image logs. Cores haveserious limitations, so image logs are the best method. The aim of this study is the systematic fractures analysis of the Asmari...
