Circadian Biology: Rhythms Leave Their Imprint
نویسنده
چکیده
A recent study has revealed that loss of neuronal expression of the paternally imprinted gene Ube3a in Angelman syndrome results in selective neuronal loss of robust circadian oscillations, with a resulting behavioural phenotype, and adipose tissue accumulation.

Circadian Rhythms: Does Burning the Midnight Oil Leave You Weak?
A new study shows that nocturnal light exposure rapidly disrupts the central circadian clock as well as reduces motor performance and bone health. These findings provide a striking example of the costs of living in a disrupted light/dark cycle.
متن کاملSalad days in the rhythms trade.
ONE of the nicest things anyone ever said about our workwas ina(necessarily) anonymousgrant review from the early 1990s in which the author commented that our lab had contributed greatly to moving the study of circadian rhythms ‘‘out of the era of spoon-bending.’’ Some years later Bob Metzenberg, who always cherished a well-turned phrase, fessed up to having written this, and it is easy to see ...
متن کاملProblems in the promised land: status of adult marrow stem cell biology.
Long-term engrafting marrow hematopoietic stem cells have been considered to be a quiescent stem cell in G(0). However, there are contradictory reports on this point in the literature, showing marked variability of results over time and between mice. Furthermore, there are circadian rhythms for stem cells and progenitors. In general, most studies have not taken stochastic variability or circadi...
متن کاملInfluence of N-Phthaloyl GABA on the Circadian Rhythms of Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidants in Wistar Rats under Constant Light
N-Phthaloyl GABA was administrated daily (50 mg/Kg body weight-i.p) to Wistar rats for 21 days and circadian rhythms of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and antioxidants such as reduced glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were studied under constant light (LL) conditions. Delayed acrophase of TBARS and advanced acrophase of antioxidants (GSH, CAT and ...
متن کاملCircadian Biology: Clocks within Clocks
A small cluster of approximately 20,000 neurons in the ventral hypothalamus provide the body with key time-keeping signals and drive circadian rhythms. This circadian clock exhibits surprisingly complex substructures, with inputs from the retina, and outputs to other brain structures. Rather little is known of the neurotransmitters involved, or their regulation.
