چکیده
The initial stage in the development of the vertebrate nervous system is the formation of the neural plate from a section of dorsal ectoderm during neurulation. Lateral edges of the neural plate subsequently protrude to form the neural folds, which eventually fuse at the dorsal midline producing the neural tube. During this stage of morphogenesis, some neural fold cells migrate out of the neural tube dorsally and produce the neural crest beneath the future epidermis. The neural tube lineage gives rise to the central nervous system (CNS), whereas the neural crest lineage produces the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and other derivatives including melanophores. Experimental manipulations such as transplantation or ablation of embryonic portions in amphibians have revealed that the instruction of dorsal mesoderm to overlying ectoderm during gastrulation is required for the formation of the neural plate and neural fold (Spemann, 1938). The spatial and temporal pattern of C-Lmx1 expression in the neuroectoderm during chick neurulation
C-Lmx1 has been shown to be a key regulatory gene for specification of dorsoventral pattern during vertebrate limb development. Here, we describe its earlier pattern of expression during and shortly after neurulation. Transcripts are first expressed in the mesoderm of the head process and rostral tip of the primitive streak at the late gastrula/early neurula stage (stage 4). As neurulation occu...
متن کاملHistological features of neural induction in Xenopus laevis.
It was first established by grafting experiments that neural induction occurs in Xenopus laevis and that it is the mesoderm in the dorsal lip of the blastopore which normally exercises this function. The subsequent histological work provided the following information: At stage 10i mesodermal invagination was already well under way, in advance of the formation of the archenteric cavity. This con...

The vertebrate Central Nervous System (CNS) originates from the embryonic dorsal ectoderm. Differentiation of the neural epithelium from the ectoderm and the formation of the neural plate constitute the first phase of a complex process called neurulation which culminates in the formation of the neural tube, the anlage of the CNS in sauropsids and mammals (for review see Smith and Schoenwolf, 19...

The morphogenetic movements of the ectoderm during neurulation include: (1) the movements taking place within the neural plate, which becomes longer and more concentrated in a medio-lateral direction (Jacobson, 1962); and (2) those found in the lateral epidermis layer which, in an epibolic way, moves in a dorsal direction, thus exerting a pushing effect on the lateral edges of the neural plate ...
