The Dynamic Nature of Thermophily
نویسنده
چکیده
1. Evidence for a close relation between thermophilic and mesophilic bacteria is discussed. 2. It is shown that in the absence of nutrients thermophilic bacteria at 55 degrees C. die as rapidly as mesophilic bacteria, and that enzyme systems of the thermophils are rapidly inactivated at this temperature. 3. It is concluded that the thermophils can live at high temperatures because they can synthesize enzymes and other cellular constituents faster than these are destroyed by heat. 4. In order to account for this great synthetic capacity at high temperatures, and for the high minimum temperatures observed for many thermophils, it is postulated that these organisms have a higher temperature coefficient of enzyme synthesis than mesophils.

On the origin and evolution of thermophily: reconstruction of functional precambrian enzymes from ancestors of Bacillus.
Thermophily is thought to be a primitive trait, characteristic of early forms of life on Earth, that has been gradually lost over evolutionary time. The genus Bacillus provides an ideal model for studying the evolution of thermophily as it is an ancient taxon and its contemporary species inhabit a range of thermal environments. The thermostability of reconstructed ancestral proteins has been us...
متن کاملThermoregulation during gravidity in the children’s python (Antaresia childreni): a test of the preadaptation hypothesis for maternal thermophily in snakes
Pregnant squamate reptiles (i.e. lizards and snakes) often maintain higher and more stable body temperatures than their nonpregnant conspecifics, and this maternal thermophily enhances developmental rate and can lead to increased offspring quality. However, it is unclear when this behaviour evolved relative to the evolution of viviparity. A preadaptation hypothesis suggests that maternal thermo...
متن کاملDynamic Categorization of Semantics of Fashion Language: A Memetic Approach
Categories are not invariant. This paper attempts to explore the dynamic nature of semantic category, in particular, that of fashion language, based on the cognitive theory of Dawkins’ memetics, a new theory of cultural evolution. Semantic attributes of linguistic memes decrease or proliferate in replication and spreading, which involves a dynamic development of semantic category. More specific...
متن کاملHierarchy Style Application in Line Extension with Responsive Loads Evaluating the Dynamic Nature of Solar Units
This paper presents a model for line extension scheduled to participate in responsive loads in the power system aiming the improvement of techno-economical parameters. The model is studied with the presence of photovoltaic generators that produce variable power depending on the geographical condition. The investment cost of the transmission expansion plan, demand response operation cost, genera...
متن کاملDynamics of Housing Prices and Economic Fluctuations in Iran with the Approach of Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE)
This paper studies the relationship between housing prices and business cycles in Iran. Since housing has a dual nature, that is, both private and capital nature, it can play an important role in investment costs and economic growth and incite other manufacturing sectors in the country. In this paper, housing prices and business cycles have been used to measure housing as a collateral, which is...
