R. Rosen ([email protected]) ABSTRACT For many low-end applications, it is beyond reach to follow accepted procedures for making colour profiles for cameras. A camera colour profile for use in a colour management system usually involves photographing a carefully measured colour test chart. There still may be need to improve colour rendition of a camera even if one is without the luxury of a well-characterized reflective colour target. Computer displays may hold the key to a “poor man’s” camera calibration chart. Even a display in good calibration raises the caution of those familiar with issues concerning instrumental metamerism. Several experiments described here show use of LCD displays for creating camera profiles and demonstrate that under best circumstances, the profiles are of fair quality. Even when using uncalibrated LCD displays, camera performance improves with colour profiles made from targets presented on screen.

Extracting Low Resolution Text with an Active Camera for OCR
Reading text in any scene is useful in the context of wearable computing, robotic vision or as an aid for visually handicapped people. Here, we present a novel automatic text reading system using an active camera focused on text regions already located in the scene (using our recent work). A region of text found is analysed to determine the optimal zoom that would foveate onto it. Then a number...
متن کاملProjector Correction Approach for Unknown Geometry Surface
-Recently, portable LCD projectors have become increasingly popular for various usages. However a careful aligning to the projection surface or a flat screen are necessary for getting a good projection effect. If a projector can display an undistorted image on an unknown geometry surface, more and more applications can be expected. In this paper, we present a new new approach allowing a project...
متن کاملPlanning Tracking Motions for an Intelligent Virtual Camera
We consider the problem of automatically generating viewpoint motions for a virtual camera tracking a moving target. Given the target’s trajectory, we plan the motion of a camera to maintain visibility with the target while optimizing certain camera-specific criteria, such as preferred view angle or view distance. Previous work has shown that optimal paths for this problem can be found with a d...

Having to carry input devices can be inconvenient when interacting with wall-sized, high-resolution tiled displays. Such displays are typically driven by a cluster of computers. Running existing games on a cluster is non-trivial, and the performance attained using software solutions like Chromium is not good enough. This paper presents a touch-free, multi-user, humancomputer interface for wall-...
متن کاملCamera Calibration Using Compound Genetic-simplex Algorithm
The paper presents a novel camera calibration method using a two-step approach. First, a genetic algorithm is used to find a good enough approximation of the solution. Then a multidimensional unconstrained nonlinear minimization (Nelder-Mead simplex) algorithm is used to refine the solution. This approach avoids errors due to linearizations and automatically finds a very good initial point for ...
