چکیده

In this paper, the authors use Spatial Interaction Filters (SIF) to simulate human experts’ visual process in tracking spatial interactive objects. The algorithm includes spatial density based pixel clustering and object interaction descriptions, such as Contact Area Index (CAI) and correlation filter. The algorithm is designed to automatically track the Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB) targets. In the case studies, SIF performs well in tracking coherent objects. However, it appears to be weak in tracking the object that breaks into pieces. A comparison between the correlation filter and the particle filter is also presented.

Multi-sensor Synergy for Monitoring of Algal Blooms in the North Sea

The operational service for algal bloom monitoring at NERSC is primarily based on NOAA AVHRR and SeaWiFS optical data. The service has shown very useful in several occasions since 1998 while severe and harmful blooms of the algae Chattonella sp. were reported from the North Sea off the coast of Denmark. Early detection and mapping of the extent and concentrations of the blooms were achieved. Ho...

SeaWiFS discrimination of harmful algal bloom evolution

The discrimination of harmful algal blooms (HABs) from space would benefit both the capability of early warning systems and the study of environmental factors affecting the initiation of blooms. Unfortunately, there are no published techniques using global monitoring satellite sensors to distinguish the resulting subtle changes in ocean colour, so in situ sampling is needed to identify the spec...

MOLECULAR TOOLS FOR MONITORING HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOMS Seasonal and annual dynamics of harmful algae and algal toxins revealed through weekly monitoring at two coastal ocean sites off southern California, USA

Reports of toxic harmful algal blooms (HABs) attributed to the diatom Pseudo-nitzschia spp. have been increasing in California during the last several decades. Whether this increase can be attributed to enhanced awareness and monitoring or to a dramatic upswing in the development of HAB events remains unresolved. Given these uncertainties, the ability to accurately and rapidly identify an emerg...

Cyanobacteria and Algae Blooms: Review of Health and Environmental Data from the Harmful Algal Bloom-Related Illness Surveillance System (HABISS) 2007–2011

Algae and cyanobacteria are present in all aquatic environments. We do not have a good sense of the extent of human and animal exposures to cyanobacteria or their toxins, nor do we understand the public health impacts from acute exposures associated with recreational activities or chronic exposures associated with drinking water. We describe the Harmful Algal Bloom-related Illness Surveillance ...

Spatial and temporal variability in macroalgal blooms in a eutrophied coastal estuary.

All three macroalgal clades (Chlorophyta, Rhodophyta, and Phaeophyceae) contain bloom-forming species. Macroalgal blooms occur worldwide and have negative consequences for coastal habitats and economies. Narragansett Bay (NB), Rhode Island, USA, is a medium sized estuary that is heavily influenced by anthropogenic activities and has been plagued by macroalgal blooms for over a century. Over the...
