Silicon micro-masonry using elastomeric stamps for three-dimensional microfabrication

چکیده
We present a micromanufacturing method for constructing microsystems, which we term ‘micro-masonry’ based on individual manipulation, influenced by strategies for deterministic materials assembly using advanced forms of transfer printing. Analogous to masonry in construction sites, micro-masonry consists of the preparation, manipulation, and binding of microscale units to assemble microcomponents and microsystems. In this paper, for the purpose of demonstration, we used microtipped elastomeric stamps as manipulators and built three dimensional silicon microstructures. Silicon units of varied shapes were fabricated in a suspended format on donors, retrieved, delivered, and placed on a target location on a receiver using microtipped stamps. Annealing of the assembled silicon units permanently bound them and completed the micro-masonry procedure. (Some figures may appear in colour only in the online journal)

Microstructured elastomeric surfaces with reversible adhesion and examples of their use in deterministic assembly by transfer printing.
Reversible control of adhesion is an important feature of many desired, existing, and potential systems, including climbing robots, medical tapes, and stamps for transfer printing. We present experimental and theoretical studies of pressure modulated adhesion between flat, stiff objects and elastomeric surfaces with sharp features of surface relief in optimized geometries. Here, the strength of...

This Communication describes the use of patterned elastomeric stamps to mold, release, and stack hydrogels into three-dimensional microstructures. Molding of gels against stamps derivatized by a hexa(ethylene glycol)-terminated self-assembled monolayer or by an adsorbed monolayer of bovine serum albumin allowed the application of several soft lithographic techniques (replica molding, microtrans...

Recently, techniques known as ‘micro-origami’ or ‘strain architecture’ have emerged for the fabrication of out-of-plane microand nanostructures by relaxation of a pair of strain-mismatched thin films. Applications of such structures include optical reflectors, actuators and micropositioners. We illustrate how control of the folding order can generate complex three-dimensional objects from metal...
متن کاملFabrication of aligned microstructures with a single elastomeric stamp.
The fabrication of complex patterns of aligned microstructures has required the use of multiple applications of lithography. Here we describe an approach for microfabrication that encodes the two-dimensional spatial information of several photomasks onto a single elastomeric stamp by mapping each photomask onto distinct heights on the surface of the stamp. Pressing the stamp against a surface c...

Microfiche has been used as the photomask in 1:1 contact photolithography to generate structures of photoresist with features as small as 10 μm. Optical reduction of images that were printed by a highresolution image setter on transparent polymer sheets generated patterns in microfiche. The photoresist patterns generated using microfiche as the photomask are useful in the fabrication of elastom...
