چکیده

Selftrapping has been traditionally studied on the assumption that quasiparticles interact with harmonic phonons and that this interaction is linear in the displacement of the phonon. To complement recent semiclassical studies of anharmonicity and nonlinearity in this context, we present below a fully quantum mechanical analysis of a two-site system, where the oscillator is described by a tunably anharmonic potential, with a square well with infinite walls and the harmonic potential as its extreme limits, and wherein the interaction is nonlinear in the oscillator displacement. We find that even highly anharmonic polarons behave similar to their harmonic counterparts in that selftrapping is preserved for long times in the limit of strong coupling, and that the polaronic tunneling time scale depends exponentially on the polaron binding energy. Further, in agreement, with earlier results related to harmonic polarons, the semiclassical approximation agrees with the full quantum result in the massive oscillator limit of small oscillator frequency and strong

Non-Markovian dissipative semiclassical dynamics.

The exact stochastic decomposition of non-Markovian dissipative quantum dynamics is combined with the time-dependent semiclassical initial value formalism. It is shown that even in the challenging regime of moderate friction and low temperatures, where non-Markovian effects are substantial, this approach allows for the accurate description of dissipative dynamics in anharmonic potentials over m...

On the semiclassical treatment of anharmonic quantum oscillators via coherent states – The Toda chain revisited

We use coherent states as a time–dependent variational ansatz for a semiclassical treatment of the dynamics of anharmonic quantum oscillators. In this approach the square variance of the Hamiltonian within coherent states is of particular interest. This quantity turns out to have a natural interpretation with respect to time–dependent solutions of the semiclassical equations of motion. Moreover...

New DNLS Equations for Anharmonic Vibrational Impurities

We examine some new DNLS-like equations that arise when considering strongly-coupled electron-vibration systems, where the local oscillator potential is anharmonic. In particular, we focus on a single, rather general nonlinear vibrational impurity and determine its bound state(s) and its dynamical selftrapping properties. email: [email protected] PACS number(s): 71.55.-i

Stable long-time semiclassical description of zero-point energy in high-dimensional molecular systems.

Semiclassical implementation of the quantum trajectory formalism [J. Chem. Phys. 120, 1181 (2004)] is further developed to give a stable long-time description of zero-point energy in anharmonic systems of high dimensionality. The method is based on a numerically cheap linearized quantum force approach; stabilizing terms compensating for the linearization errors are added into the time-evolution...

Bohmian dynamics on subspaces using linearized quantum force.

In the de Broglie-Bohm formulation of quantum mechanics the time-dependent Schrodinger equation is solved in terms of quantum trajectories evolving under the influence of quantum and classical potentials. For a practical implementation that scales favorably with system size and is accurate for semiclassical systems, we use approximate quantum potentials. Recently, we have shown that optimizatio...
