A difference scheme for the Vlasov-Poisson-Fokker-Planck system
A finite difference scheme is proposed for a relatively simple one dimensional collisional plasma model (Vlasov-Poisson-Fokker-Planck). The convergence of the scheme was established in [10]. In this article the scheme is implemented and compared with a random particle method. The difference scheme is found to be more effective, particularly at resolving the plasma density, / (£, x, v).
متن کاملThe Vlasov-Poisson-Landau System in a Periodic Box
The classical Vlasov-Poisson-Landau system describes dynamics of a collisional plasma interacting with its own electrostatic eld as well as its grazing collisions. Such grazing collisions are modeled by the famous Landau (Fokker-Planck) collision kernel, proposed by Landau in 1936. We construct global unique solutions to such a system for initial data which have small weighted H norms, but can...
متن کاملCaldeira-Leggett Model, Landau Damping, and the Vlasov-Poisson System
The Caldeira-Leggett Hamiltonian (Eq. (1) below) describes the interaction of a discrete harmonic oscillator with a continuous bath of harmonic oscillators. This system is a standard model of dissipation in macroscopic low temperature physics, and has applications to superconductors, quantum computing, and macroscopic quantum tunneling. The similarities between the Caldeira-Leggett model and th...
متن کاملConservative semi-Lagrangian finite difference WENO formulations with applications to the Vlasov equation
Abstract In this paper, we propose a new conservative semi-Lagrangian (SL) finite difference (FD) WENO scheme for linear advection equations, which can serve as a base scheme for the Vlasov equation by Strang splitting [4]. The reconstruction procedure in the proposed SL FD scheme is the same as the one used in the SL finite volume (FV) WENO scheme [3]. However, instead of inputting cell averag...
متن کاملDarwin-Vlasov simulations of magnetised plasmas
We present a new Vlasov code for collisionless plasmas in the nonrelativistic regime. A Darwin approximation is used for suppressing electromagnetic vacuum modes. The spatial integration is based on an extension of the flux-conservative scheme, introduced by Filbet et al. [F. Filbet, E. Sonnendrücker, P. Bertrand, Conservative numerical schemes for the Vlasov equation, J. Comput. Phys. 172 (200...
