Yes Abstract Categories: Interest Group: Community/Public Health Thematic Areas: Adult Health Introduction: Secondhand smoke exposure is the third leading cause of preventable death, leading to nearly 50,000 deaths per year in nonsmokers. Smoke-free laws are highly effective in reducing community smoking rates and improving health outcomes. However, rural communities are less likely to enact smoke-free laws than urban communities. The purpose is to examine community characteristics associated with community readiness for smoke-free policy development in rural communities.
