Isolation and Characterization of Mycoplasmas (pplo) from Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Reiter's Syndrome.

چکیده
Using tissue culture methods, mycoplasmas (PPLO) were isolated from synovial fluid, bone marrow, kidney, or serum of 14 of 17 patients with either rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, or Reiter's syndrome. Sensitivity to various antibiotics and the ability to ferment glucose varied, but all strains were sensitive to tetracycline, and hemolysed sheep cells. Antigenic relationships, studied by complement fixation and growth inhibition, revealed minor differences among the strains, except one which appeared culturally and antigenically distinct. Growth inhibition agzinst several recognized human mycoplzsmas was demonstrated.

Anticardiolipin Antibodies in Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Background: Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) can either occur as a primary syndrome or associated with other autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Anticardiolipin antibody (aCL) of IgG and/or IgM isotype in blood, measured by a standardized ELISA is the most acceptable laboratory criteria. APS IgG isotype, particularly IgG2 subclass is more strongly associated ...

Macrophage Activating Syndrome (MAS) is a life-threatening disease seen in autoimmune diseases including lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, Still's disease, polyarteritis nodosa. It is characterized by fever, pancytopenia, liver failure, coagulopathy, and neurologic symptoms and high serum ferritin. A 27 yr. old female patient was admitted in shahid Mostafa Khomeini Hospital (Tehran-Ira...
متن کاملCharacterization of mycoplasma strains and antibody studies from patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
Previously reported studies' have described the isolation methods and initial characterization of mycoplasma from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) , systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) , and Reiter's syndrome. These strains were isolated in cell culture using two primary cell lines, green monkey kidney and diploid human embryonic lung fibroblasts. Inocula included synovial fluid, kidney t...
متن کاملFailure to show mycoplasmas and cytopathogenic virus in rheumatoid arthritis.
Synovial needle biopsies, joint aspirates, and joint tissue obtained at open operation from 41 cases of rheumatoid arthritis were inoculated onto PPLO media, L-form medium, and cell cultures for the isolation of mycoplasmas, L-form bacteria, and viruses. Medium suitable for the isolation of 'T' strain mycoplasmas was not employed. No mycoplasmas, L-form bacteria, or cytopathogenic viruses were ...

In earlier studies, the isolation of mycoplasmas from the bone marrow of patients suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and from synovial fluid in rheumatoid arthritis was reported were shown to have at least partial antigenic identity with Mycoplasma arthritidis. In the present investigation, the structure of one of these isolates was studied by thin sectioning and compared with th...
